Looking for 29 x 14 slicks

#1 Post by wikd69 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 2:06 am

Hi all,

I need to find a set of slicks that'll fit under the back of my Camaro. It's back-halfed, currently running MT 29x18.50 Sportsman Pros. I need to find someone selling slicks about this same size, with no more than a 95" or 96" rollout (between 29" and 30" tall), with at least 14" of tread on the ground. They will need to mount on my 15 x 14" wide ProStars.

The closest I've found so far are: M&H RaceMasters, MHR-84 - 94.2 Rollout, 13" Tread Wdth, 14" Wheel Wdth

The 13" wide slicks above will work if I can't find anything else, but it'll give me a pretty narrow stance in the back (The MT Pros I'm running now put 15.5" of tread on the ground - it looks like a Fred Flintstone ride from the back :) ). I'd like to find something with at least 14" of tire on the ground. This is a stock body BBC blower car with a trans-brake, detroit locker and 4:10's in the back. I need *hook*. I know the 10.5 guys are all doing wheelstands and cranking out blistering ET's, but they're also not pushing 3600lbs+ down the track using ladder-bars :).

Of course, being the neophyte that I am, mayhaps these M&H 13's will do the job. The Sportsman Pro's put down 15.5" of D1 compound on the track but they're also treaded, so the effective rubber on the ground may not be as much as these 13's put down. The 13's may give me lots of traction. It'll just be $600 experiment to find out and Mama is getting a little testy about my race budget <g>.

Oh yeah, I'm also cranking out somewhere around 700hp at the flywheel, so maybe 575 to 600 at the rear wheel. This is a scientific wild ass guess, but it's prolly pretty close.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Shy of getting out the old plasma cutter I'm running out of options.

Ok, an update.

I bought a set of Hoosiers, 29.5x11.5/15- 13.5 tread width - these just fit and are a hard compound with stiffer sidewalls...

Next step will be to see how they hook.
