looking for traction

#1 Post by macdaddy31516 » Wed Nov 05, 2008 6:47 pm

i have got a ford ranger , leaf spring, ford 9inch, 4.30 gears, c-4 tranny, stock shocks, the motor is putting out roughly 340 hp, and 358 ft.lbs torque.i am running hoosier quick time dot radials.they are 275x50x15. i put a holley double pumper and a 3000 stall. after that change, it just blows the tires off.i have tried the old school slapper bars and that does nothing.i am wondering if i need a taller tire. right now it will leave 2 black streaks about 15 ft. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is that 15 ft out on a local street? If so I bet it wouldn't spin 1 ft at the track.
I now it's a dumb question but need to know.

Sounds like you need to do some research on traction. Try this web site.

It will help.

This car would leave stripes a block long with slicks on the street but at the track it didn't spin 5 ft. Just so you know there is a differance.

supernova you are correct about it being on a street, a country rock road at that.

I'm not trying to be smart but the best of suspensions won't get good traction on the street.

How much psi in your tires? You should be running about 18 lbs in the tire you have for best traction but may not make much differance on the street.

14 lbs might not be enough. but only you can determine that. Every street car I've owned has had traction problems I just learned to pedal them. You could put a bigger tire on it.

this truck is mostly a weekend truck. i drive it to town when the wife and i go out to eat or just to play with the ricers. this truck has not been to the track one time. i would like to take it to just see what it runs.got me wondering if just a bigger tire would be my answer, maybe a m/t et drag slick.
