i need some opinons with gearing

#1 Post by chpcamaro » Sun Nov 09, 2008 12:50 pm

ok lets start with saying hello to everyone.
alright here's my setup
1)572 making around 1000hp i'll know exactly after i dyno it i'm figuring my high rpm will be 7500
2)power glide i don't remember if it was 1.80 gear or 1.76 my paper work is at work
3)tires 29.5 10.5 15w
4)and i am running a 12bolt/35 spilne axles
5)car weight with driver 2800
6)and i run 1/4 mile 80%of the time
7)i'm not running the bottle if it runs what i think it will but i will run it later but at that time i will make changes for gears but right now i just need a set up for no bottle.
8)ok i can't make up my mind if i need to run 4.11 or 4.56

some more input the reason i am having a prob with this is i came from a 18 dregee SBC with 850 hp
and i am so use to running low gearing that these gears seem rediculously high lol but i know the torque is going to way lower with the BBC
so any input would be greatly appreciated
thank you

Depending on the alltitude you race at I would think your car should go around 160-164 mph and with some tire growth and conv slippage to go thru the traps @ 7500 you would need a 3.89. You should dyno first get your rpm info then buy gears IMO

thank you once again

Ok Rob, Fontana is what I saw in your pic. Just didn't know if I was missing something.
The D/A there in the summer can reach 5,000 feet, better this time of year at around 2,500'.

I do not run any class at this time, still learning how to drive it  I need seat time bad, the car is better than me right now.
Would like to run PSCA Quick street, (9.60 index heads up) http://www.pscaracing.com/Rules/rules_08_quick.html

What about you? Is yours going to run a class?

---Bill.

PS. I also visit the boys over at Westech, Steve, Ernie,... and still see Tom at the track from time to time.

i have been running with psca for along time but work has me so busy that i can't get out and run my car or class. i started with hot street then moded the car more and put myself out of my class so now i am just running open comp till i figure out what i want to run ith my new set up but the cars has been down for a while i will be getting my new motor to steve in the next few weeks to dyno it. next week i will be there also dynoing a blown akly dragster motor for a customer so he can start running his dragster and i can start working on my own car.
