Getting ready to build one from scratch. I know the ford 9" rear is like the "standard" for drag cars. but what about using the mopar 8 3/4" ? It seems like I can build the mopar cheaper than the 9". The car will be at the 750HP, 2000Lb level. anyone running them???? experiences???? THANKS

9 inch. Easier to get parts for when you need them, and also resale down the road is much easier than the Chrysler rear. Plus, they didn't put them in their own HiPo cars...

I'd go for the 9inch also. Its easier to find parts at the track if you wreck something.

sounds like the 9" is the way to go. Any info on housings? I would like to start with a new aftermarket housing, cant really afford a fabbed one like a moser or comp eng, but the currie 9 plus looks nice and I can weld? I like the idea of having 3" tubes and could add a rear brace?
And lastly I see alot of carriers available, any preferences or are they all about the same? I see on Ebay a nodular carrier thats alot cheaper than say Moser , Strange made by PEM? never heard of them??? THANKS for all the feedback!! I knew I could get some honest info here!

With the mopar 8 3/4 rears I've seen the axle tubes are tapered in diameter. So if you try to narrow a tapered axle tube it's a pain in the ass. First they don't fit in a lathe very well with a steady rest. Next if you cut off the axle tube ends and shorten the tube, it gets bigger as you get closer to the pumpkin. Not even in the same ball park with a 9" in my opinion. They're just an all around pain in the ass.
