Hurst quarter stick ?? help

#1 Post by coony278 » Tue Feb 17, 2009 7:58 pm

I changed the valve body in my trans over the winter and now have a reverse pattern for shifts.

Is there anyway to change the gate on the hurst quarter stick to a reverse pattern or do I have to buy a new shifter ? I have had a couple of guys tell me to change the gate in it but there is no way to unbolt the gate it is part of the shifter and summit doesnt list any parts to do this with.

If it makes any difference the it is a 3 speed trans.

any help would be appreciated.

We've done it before, but went from a 3-speed to 2-speed. You remove one of the blocks I think. Does your gate look the same as the ones on page 2 here: http://hurst-shifters.com/hurst-shifter ... 160025.pdf?

If you just went from a forward pattern 3 speed to a reverse pattern 3 speed you will need another shifter. The hurst shifters do not have gates that can be changed. On there reverse pattern shifter the same part number fits both 2 and 3 speeds. It comes setup for a 2 speed you unbolt a small gate on the back of the shifter that is a stop for the 2 speed. Once the stop is unbolted it will allow the 3 speed to go in high gear. I have these shifters in both my cars.

I guess that would be why ours worked. Thanks for the clarification.

THanks for the info guys, from now on I will by a B&M shifter if I ever need a new. just change the gate plate and your done.

Or you can do what I did on the hurst and use a mig welder and a file and make a new gate. Worked out great :D
