1st time transbrake
Hey guys, this year will be my 1st year with a trans brake. My question is, should you launch under your converters stall rpm? With my limited knowledge it would seem that if you had a 4000 stall and you launched at 5000 rpm with a brake, wouldnt that be the same as having a 5000 rpm converter? thanks

I was told by Heath at NCRC not to put the brake on at max stall it was better on the trans and everything to be at least a few hundred rpm under that.

If you truely have a 4000 converter, it will not stall at 5000 on the brake. This what PTC and my trans builder told me. After you get it in, the fluids warmed up and fluid level checked, go out and test it, and make sure it holds. Note the rpm with the transbrake applied and full throttle, as a general rule, the max two/three step rpm chip should be no more than 200 rpm less than this or the life of the trans and converter will be shortened.
I bracket raced a car that ran 9.20's to 8.80's over a three year period. The car weighed 2500 lbs. motor made 775 HP. I used the same trans and converter, after two and half years the Converter did break and had to be repaired, the transmission needed just normal maintenance.
I never even had a 2 step on the car, we made 200-300 passes a year always left wide open at full converter stall, Converter broke after 700-800 passes.

would you benifit from the converter flashing some
or maxing it out on launch?
also my tranny guy told me that if i use the converter that stalled to 4000 in a t350 to expect about a 1000rpm more in the powerglide. i wasnt planning on a new converter this year, i guess i will try it and see what happens. Oh and John, Keith Neal wouldnt come off a hat but He did send me home with a nice tee shirt and a sexy transmission.

you can get a different shifter that will shift in the same direction as the old one. differeance is being a front or rear cable exit on the shifter.dadnova wrote:Just remember the shift pattern will be different. After years of driving my car my son hates the new brake for he keeps going into neutral after launch, he will get use to it.

my freinds run this shifter since they couldnt get used to a reverse pattern with a prostick.
