about the time i think i'm on my game, something slaps the crap out of me i was re-reading smokeys power secrets from like 1977.. and found the answer to your question.. the answer is still the same .. and listed in this site on the back pages... rotella for base oils like 15/50 it still has the good stuff in it. till late 07 and the epa will have it killed.. synthetic if it's anything you value. the weight depends on temp and bearing clearances. ever notice porsche has a sticker that says mobile one only, on the engine cowl or even a V6 turbo grand national samething rember the typhoon & cyclone.. both carried the same decal... from 1992. read smokeys book very up to date for 35 year old stuff.. oh and don't forget the little bottle of GM EOS the best assembly lube on the market mix 50/50 with base oil for assembly add the other half of the bottle to start up oil..oh and don't get it on the rings they wont seat for a while..
make a plan and stick to it !!

Last season, I switched from conventional 10w30 to Amsoil 5w20. I made some other oiling changes as well, but I found better oil pressure and greatly improved bearing wear when I tore into the motor this winter.

I am a vavoline person myself. I use valvoline racing 30 or 40 depending on the time of year, and a wix 51515 with a remote adapter.

Is Amsoil that much better?
I really never thought about it as I run Rotulla, however the oil is changed out so often I just wanted to keep the cost down. I also just run a Moroso micro screen filter only.

I'm using Rotella 30w. The 350's got a solid lifter cam and needs the extra additives.

One of my sponsors is selling an additive they developed that replaces the properties that oil used to have when it contained zinc. If anyone wants more information, I can provide it to you.

RB,
How do you like the green oil?, I use the Brad Penn 20W50 racing oil in my BBC and my coolant temp is around 15 to 20 degrees lower on the street than when I used Valvoline oil. We only have two places in the Minneapolis area that sell it, sounds like the refinery in Bradford, Penn. is starting to increase their production and planning to do alot more marketing in the future.
See ya! Tom
