if you where running a 78 malibu call it 2700 lb car with a sb glide and 488 gears and ran a 11.68 how much do you think you would gain by going to a 3 speed instead like th350 or 400

IMO, that car may be way over-geared with 4.88s.

Depends on the tire height.

I doubt you'll see much at that weight by switching to a three speed unless you're motor is really peaky even then, it's unlikely. Working with the converter is probably going to show a far bigger gain in ET or MPH than changing transmissions. Well, that is unless there is something wrong with your glide.

i am not sure if trans is hurt it shouldnt be. i am running a 3500 stall it has tons of perk just finished it it a 14-1 355 with a victor and a 750 demon machinest says i can spin to 8500 if i wish but would like to keep it around 7000 one person was teling me i might not have enough torque to pound the gears with the glide and i should think about going to the 3 speed so i can have an extra gear to help push me faster

Whats your 60ft and MPH ? I'd say you need a converter (5500 range) or a different cam. I run low 10's at 3850lbs shifting at 6k, crossing at 6500 w/4.11's and 30" tires. Yeah its a pump gas big block..Built for torque and I like it that way ;)

I swicthed from a 3 speed to a glide and didnt lose but 2/100's off my 60 ft. At the eighth I picked up a half a tenth and 2 mph. Best investment Ive made so far.

Try shifting at a lower rpm youll be surprised how much et you can pick up.

when we switched from a 3 speed to a glide in our 68 super stocker we didnt gain any at all, but when we then switched from the 456 gear to a 513 we picked up 7 tenths. we were running 30x9 drag radial slicks a 5500 stall 8 in converter and going thru the traps right at 7300rpm. car ran a best time at bakersfeild of 10.51@129. not bad for a camel back headed 355 that dyno'd less than 500hp.
