Re: You and your ride... Post it here get to know everyone...
Hello. My name is Clint. I'm new to the forum. I stumbled on dragstuff.com searching the internet for John Heard. I followed his Nova build on his personal site when he was just getting started several years ago. Something about the mini tub, cage, and convo pros really inspired me.
I have had my Nova since I was 15 (now 26). At the time I did a rebuild of the front end and posted my progress on my personal website, http://cjnn.xtremefabricator.com. I haven't update that site for years, but the Nova hasn't changed a lot since. The engine is a little tired but it runs well. It's a SB350 breathing through Edelbrock RPM heads (9.7:1CR), RPM manifold, Comp Cams XE274H bumpstick(.487/.490, 230/236@050, 106 ICL, 110 LSA), Speed Demon 650 DP, and dynomax headers. The tranny is a TH400 and it feeds a 12bolt with 3.73s and a posi. A couple years ago I threw a set of slide-a-links (similar to caltracs) out back (hello traction!), installed a Griffen aluminum radiator, and put in a BTE converter (~2,800 stall). This past weekend I swapped the HEI for a Summit billet distributor and Mallory VI AL.
I am a mechanical engineer by profession (earned an MSME from Cal Poly, SLO) and design automated production equipment. When I was in college I designed & built a CNC hydraulic tube bender (video here: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... 1441790523) and I used it to build an exo-cage for my rock crawler Toyota. These days I feel a lot more capable than I was when I first built the car and I'm hoping to apply some of the things I've learned and the tools I've acquired to make the Nova into something special.
Anyhow I hope to learn a lot from you guys and I look forward to filling my head with great tech info from this site.

A big welcome to Drag Stuff Clint. Sounds like you've got a great education and some mad skillz. Hope you have some fun here. I can probably get you a John Heard autograph for $50 if you want one. I framed mine and pray to it every time I'm out in the garage.TheBandit wrote:Hello. My name is Clint. I'm new to the forum. I stumbled on dragstuff.com searching the internet for John Heard.

Thanks for the welcomes!
71 Nova - Nice to meet another Cal Poly Nova fanatic. I made the trek out to Fomoso once a few years ago, but my ignition coil gave up the ghost on the way out there. I was literally at the turnoff from 99 when the car died and I rolled to a stop. The Gods just weren't on my side and I haven't been back since. But I did borrow a G-tech from a friend a few years ago and ran the Nova on a backroad (not the safest way to do it mind you!). I ran a 13.4 best out of about four tries, but the car wasn't shifting into 3rd. I had to let off to get it to shift. It's a problem I still haven't fixed - when the car is at WOT, the TH400 will not shift from 2nd to 3rd. I have no kickdown switch right now; maybe that has something to do with it. Otherwise it shifts perfectly find when cruising around town and during part throttle acceleration.
Anyhow, that's just one of several problems I imagine I could get help with from this forum community. I'm already learning a lot just from lurking and reading through existing postings. Thanks for having me!

Welcome aboard and yeah, what walt said. Gotta love the "golf ball" effect.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.
