Not sure how many of you have seen this already, but thought I would post it as it's very enlightening, this is probably the best explanation on pinon angle you're going to find.

In a perfect world yes, you should try to have them equal and opposite. And when the rear is lower than the trans it works fine. But what do you do in a drag car when the rear housing is tucked up in the car and the trans is lower? My car the driveshaft runs up hill while the trans points down. So I have the pinion point down slightly to accomodate the pinion wanting to still roll up under acceleration. If I used equal and opposite, the trans would point down and the pinion would point up. And then under acceleration it would point even more in the upward direction.

Then in your case your pinion would point up at a parallel angle, minus what you want to allow for deflection. Ladder Bar / 4 link typically is 2 degrees.
