?? 1/8 mile tracks ??

#1 Post by sixty_foot » Tue Sep 20, 2005 10:21 am

i am curious as to the reference of almost all racers and their 1/8 mile ets.....
are ther that many 1/8 mile tracks out there ?
it is just my opinion.......i restated...my opinion, that racing on a 1/8 mile track would be an absolute waste of time and energy.
......i dont see any sanctioned events for 1/8 mile racing by nhra....
speed..... is how fast you hit the wall,
.....torque...... is how hard you bounce off

It's not that bad.. I think a lot of it is people are just not used to the numbers and what they mean. Still can be just as exciting to watch (to me anyway) a pair of Pro Mod's dipping into the 3's on an 1/8 mile track as it is on the 1/4. I still prefer 1/4 mile myself, but 1/8th can be just as fun.

Hi everyone, My first post here! Linked in from Chevytalk, looks like an informative site here. I run on a local 1/8th mile track with my street/ strip '55 Bel Air, and have never run on the 1/4. Would like to some day, but when you have a 1/8 th mile track 15 minutes from home, why go anywhere else? We have some fast cars out there also, with speeds at 100 to 125 being what I consider the fastest. As an attraction, every once in a while the track will bring in alcohol funny cars and jet cars, they are just insane on such a short track!

Some might argue the opposite...that going the full 1/4 mile is a waste of fuel and parts.

I didn't like 1/8th mile racing at first, but once I had run 1/8th mile a few times, I started to figure out what the ETs and speeds equate to and it was all just racing to me after that.

NHRA does do 1/8th mile racing, even on 1/4 mile tracks. Beech Bend is a 1/4 mile track, but their Sunday afternoon NHRA racing is 1/8th mile, except for a 1/4 mile trophy class.

The reality of it is that real estate prices and insurance concerns make 1/8th mile racing a lot more feasible for most track owners.

Don't knock it till you try it. I race 1/8 and 1/4, and I can tell you that it is just as much fun. Plus you can save on parts. There are a lot of cars that run regularly on 1/8 and get et's in the 4's and 5's, with speeds in excess of 150.
Try it sometime.
