Racing movies..

#1 Post by Super73 » Mon Nov 19, 2007 11:41 pm

I'm wondering what TV or Hollywood movies are out there.

I can thing of:
Cannonball run 1 and 2
Fast and Furious
American Graffiti

There was one in the mid-late 90's that I can't remember that I think was a Fox special one with Johnny Depp. Anyone know the name of this one???

Also any other movies you can think of?

Best chase scene was from "Bullet", with Steve McQueen. The Gene Hackman movie, "The French Connection", also had a good chase scene. The old "American Graffiti" film showed teenagers in the very early sixties and is a very accurate portrayal of the way teens thought back then and is more about adolescence than the climatic race at the end of the show. That was a much better time to be a teenager than now. There is one called "Gone in sixty seconds" that ends in the imaginary disappearance of a '73, or thereabouts, white Dodge Charger. One i never saw called "Two Lane Blacktop" has some street race footage but i don't know how period correct it was. Fast and Furious shows things that just don't happen in any race or chase, pure fiction.

Two Lane blacktop has some good footage at a track, lot's of cars. and the 57 Chevy that is the main car is the same 57 that was wrecked in American Grafitti. (the driver car, not the stunt car).

And the movie Hotrod with the hemi Willys is cool too.

It's actually a '55 Chevy and I had the privilege to ride in that car when Steve Fitch from Wichita, KS owned it. The main car was not the one that was wrecked in American Grafitti. There were 3 '55 Chevys used to make that movie.

Checkout the movie called HotRod. Was set in the late 70's I think. All about Lions Dragstrip and a bunch of cool old rods. Stealing a hemi from a cop car and putting a blower on it then putting it into an old willys, just some of the cool things in this movie.

I did a google search for it, you try that. HOTROD (1979) starring Robert Culp. Here's a link to a good write up on it. http://www.sd455.com/moviehotrodtv.htm
I found it on amazon used for 59.99 and up. Guess its become a collectors. There has to be remakes out there. I guess I'll have to digout my copy. Hope I still have it.
Another good one was "Dirty Marry Crazy Larry" which is available on amazon on DVD for 10.99. Some other good ones there just search hotrod.

VANISHING POINT IS ANOTHER GOOD ONE. Features a 71 Dodge Challenger it's a 383 car with a 4 speed pistol grip shifter. Makes a bet with his friend he can make it from one state to another in so many hours.
