Anyone on here use a electric vacum pump

awile back while running alcohol, I ran a electric pump. seemed to work fine.

I run one on my chevelle street car and it works great. Brakes are always there and pedal feels right when you need them :) Simple install and looks clean. It has a little vacuum switch to turn off the pump once it builds enough pressure. I don't remember which brand I bought, seems like it was a new one from some one on ebay. I can look tonight and let you know if your interested.

I haven't ever heard too many good things about electric pumps - they'll have a hard time drawing enough vacuum to keep up with a very big engine, or much blow by. One of the local guys used to run a pair of them on a 10.5 car, but I don't think he was data logging or had a good idea how much vacuum they were generating going down track. Mechanical pumps are typically the best option - I assume you're talking about for generating crankcase vacuum... If you're talking about something for a brake booster then might let us know.

And to clarify my post above I was refering to an electric pump with the sole purpose of suppling vacuum for the brake booster. My car only has 3-4 in-Hg of vacuum at idle so there was no power brakes. The booster is not hooked up to the motor at all, just the stand alone electric vacuum pump and it works great. Now if I interpreted the original post wrong and he was refereing to vacuum pumps for the crankcase, I would agree with John that they probably don't do a good job, and have never heard or seen anyone using an electric pump for the crankcase, just belt driven mechanical ones.

Sorry I was talking about for crankcase not brakes, thanks for the input trying to street drive something with nos ring gaps.

I have a new air pump from an Olds Alero but have not installed it yet. Just jumper wired it and it twists up something fierce. Moves ALOT more air than my friends S10 blazer air pump.
