took the new car to the track
Well not a new car its just an all new setup. the car did ok for being not even running thursday but still made the first race. The new motor does not like run without nitrous, made two motor passes and best was a 10.17 (wow) but on the bottle it was a little more fun. only one small stage it went 9.15 at 150 mph with a crappy 1.41 60' times. I did find out I will have to change gears because at the stripe it only at 6950 rpm. here are some pics

Re: took the new car to the track
tires are 315/60 and the gears are 3.70. I will be putting the 4.10 gears in this weekend. that should get me closer to 7800 at the stripe.

The attention to detail is astounding! Is that your handywork? Awesome spot for the elec. board

Re: took the new car to the track
You go running a BBC 7800 in the lights you'll have pieces of what used to be your 565. You have a 4.25" stroke and at 7800 your piston speed is on the moon. That isn't a small block, it would be a much better idea to add a little more nitrous instead of changing gears, if anything go higher on the gears, something along the lines of 3.50s. I have a friend who runs SS/CA and he has blown up two BBCs trying to run them 7800 in the lights, number 7 rod right through the pan, thousands of dollars wasted from being stupid. Keep it down to about 7000-7200 at the line and it'll live a long life, P.S....It will even run faster with less gear, nitrous makes instant torque, then tapers off as you continue downtrack. When you overgear one it drives through the torque faster and doesn't go anywhere, less gear keeps the engine in the primary part of the torque curve, and it gives you more acceleration.
Re: took the new car to the track
Soooooo, 7800 rpm too much? Lots of guys are doing it with great sucess. Yeah piston speed means friction. But there is an upside to it. A higher mean piston speed also pulls the piston down from top dead center faster, creating a more acute pressure drop in the intake runner. Thus increasing velocity of intake charge in the runner. Anyway, what I'm getting at is a 4.25 srtoke and 7800 rpm is not necessarily a bad thing. At that piston speed a heavy piston does not do you any favors. Trying to nearly instantly change the direction of the piston does try to pull them apart. Bottom line is, at that rpm, use good parts and a good machinist. Just my humble opinion.
