Plastic inner fender wells?
Hey guys!!! Thinking about loosing some weight (the car not me). My 68 chevelle has the stock steel front inner fender wells, but i know that some had factory plastic fender wells. I am assuming that the plastic ones must be lighter? I see Original parts group sells repoduction ones. I also know that some companys make fiberglass ones, but I am worried about the fit and quality. I know alot of guys go with out them but my car is still (somewhat) of a stret car.
Re: Plastic inner fender wells?
None of the aftermarket stuff fits perfect but the plastic ones can be fit easily with a heat gun if they are off a bit, fiberglass has no flexibility so if they dont fit its going to cutting and reglassing. Years ago we put some glass ones in a 71 nova and they actually fit very well and they were made by the worst company Unlimited Fiberglass.
Re: Plastic inner fender wells?
Aw com'on, I bought my fiberglass full bolt on cowl hood from unlimited about 10 years ago and was very happy with it. But thats what I was afraid of with the fiberglass. but do you think the plastic ones are lighter than the fiberglass????
Re: Plastic inner fender wells?
I would think the plastic ones are lighter.

I watched a Chevelle burn to the ground one time because of those. At least that what the guy that owned the car said, he said he opened the hood and the right fenderwell was on fire. Something to think about when contemplating putting those near a set of 1200 degree header tubes.
