Lemons headers...

#1 Post by Hitchcock » Fri Jun 24, 2011 8:11 pm

Who is using them, and who is using the dimensions Dan Lemons suggested? He want mine to be pretty big and have some merge collectors. Just wondering what everyone thinks. I know most say the quality is excellent. But what about the performance with his suggested tubing size????

Size doesn't hurt........ I have 2 1/4", 4" collectors and they are hooker super comps. Lemmons are nice but pricey......

He wants me to run 2 1/8 stepped to 2 1/4 with 4 in. collectors. And the tapered merge collectors. I thought they were big, but he thinks my junk is gonna make quite a bit more power than I thought. So far I have run what the pro's have told me to for my combo. Cam, carb's, gear, converter ect. ect. No reason to start doubting them now I guess.

What about the tapered or megaphone style merge collector's. They are a pricey option, but are they worth the money for some good power or what??

You didn't get that??????      :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 Too funny!!!

Hey, I can tell you that if your worried about price just buy you a set of super comps (2 1/8" x 4") and be happy with them until you can throw down on the Lemmons later. Lemmons are NICE but you don't have to have them to run your car. It's not a have to have item to go fast. It was hard to get it out of my head that I needed them but once I did and bought the super comp's for 1/2 the price they been just fine. Yes, I will replace them with Lemmons when the time comes. The other half I didn't spend on headers went to the MSD 7531 box that there is no substitute for. In otherwards you sometimes have to spend wisely now durring your build and splurg later when your not in the build mode.
Does that make sence? it's what I did and work just fine for now. :thumb:

Been very pleased with the Lemon's Headers I have. I'm on my second set from him. Spark plug access is great too. I'd love to have him make me some fenderwell headers some day, but not going to spend money on that right now.

Oh yeah, the baby. Boy do I feel like an Idiot. Well so far Isabell has not sucked up much of my play money. And as far as the price. A set of hooker super comps with a 2.125 tube is over 700.00. Big ticket items like that will get paid for by me Plus like I said, I can side job to pay for them. That way it does not come out of my paychecks.

But have any of you guys go tthe ones with the mage phone style merge collectors.

I'm running 2 1/8" Supercomps on mine, and yep, $700.

With my Aftermarket Subframe that was suppose to cut to a stock 67 Subframe, I bought the Hooker Super comps. In order for mine to fit right you had to cut the headers. Now that they are hitting the frame on the subframe, I happen to see the company who makes my subframe at Carlisle Pa at the GM Nationals. I was told that the subframe is narrow then the stock ones. Wish I would have known that. So looks like the car is going back to the mad scientists in the Off Season for a Custom set.

If you have a custom set made, make damn sure you take the car with sparkplugs and boots installed and be very specific that the boots must clear easily. I know several people that have got custom ones done, and the builder didn't give them enough clearance.
