Final Stages

#1 Post by Bruce69Camaro » Mon Jul 18, 2011 5:28 am

Well guys, I'm in the final stages of the Camaro build.

Christmas is coming in early August this year for me. I just spent some money on a PTC, 8" converter, SPAL fan, 5" cowl hood from Fiberboy Fiberglass, hood mounting kit, paint to finish the car, new weatherstipping, vinyl top molding and a bunch of little things you forget you had to buy.

It's going to be a push but I'm going to try and have it out by the end of this season.

I want to thank Rob for giving me a lot of help on my fan/ shroud issue. It was greatly appreciated :thumb:

And of course, there will be pictures.

Hey, it may not run as fast as that certain Nova guy, but it will look pretty!
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........

I still have the front of the motor apart, playing with cam timing. I should have it buttoned up a bit later this week and making noise by the weekend.

I'm also wrestling with getting the front of the crank back together - I'm swapping out my ATI damper for a simple chromemoly hub setup. I originally ordered the RCD long BBC crank hub with their crank trigger / degree wheel but found out it's got two 1/4" square keyways in it. My Eagle 434 crank has two keyways, one 1/4" square and the other a 3/16 half-moon keyway. I'm having a hell of a time finding a 3/16" half-moon to 1/4" stepped key to allow me to use the RCD hub. Gads.

I did find out this morning though that Good Vibes makes a hub identical to the RCD unit with both a 1/4" and 3/16" keyway, as well as a crank trigger degree wheel to go with it. I'll prolly cancel my RCD order and just go with the Good Vibes product. I won't be fully converting over to a crank trigger yet - I'll follow up with that a bit later on - I just wanted to get the crank trigger / degree wheel in place for now while I had the motor apart.

Assuming all goes well, we'll have an event here in Sacramento on August 27/28 called NorCal Invasion, put on by the same folks who do LA Invasion, the event I attended over Memorial Day weekend. I'm working to get ready for that weekend - Rob (CHP), Moe (Slightly Tweaked) and Herb (and possibly others) are planning on coming up for the event. Should be a pretty cool - too bad you don't live closer - you could come visit :)

Yeah, what Rob said, about PhotoBucket. - Do you have a treasure trove of pix & vids on your hotrod ?

How tight is your new converter ? And, what CFM is your fan ?

I used to have a page but then work started to block all photo hosting sites so I got rid of it because at home, I really don't have a lot of time to mess around with it.

As for the converter, it's going to be an 8" full race converter in the area of 5000+ stall.

The fan is a 16" and SPAL rates it at 2360 cfm. I ended up making a shroud using a 3/4" depth dimension which was based off of testing that Rob did. I turned out pretty good and now I'm just waiting to get the fan so I can cut out the hole and mount it.

What's still really hard is, after all these years of seeing the car blue, going into the garage and seeing this bright orange, but I like it. I got more paint coming in from TCP Global in CA, I should have had you or Rob deliver it :smt005
