Any one remember how deep the hole is on the lower block drains? the ones on each side of the block, they are like 1/4 Npt I think.

Trying to see if I can get one of these sensors in there before I order one? Yeah, I know I can drain the block and find out, was just being lazy...

It's on the low priority list, I haven't messed with it yet. I have a temp sensor for a autometer water temp gauge that I think I might be able to make work if it's 0-5vdc, haven't got a chance to research it yet.

How long is that probe john? Im putn a bbc together at the shop right now for a customer i can look and see if it would fit.

Not real sure haven't ordered one yet, looks to me like it's maybe 1/2" long. It's 1/8 NPT, so it'll stick out less then that when I put it in a reducer bushing. I think those side drains are 1/4npt



This is an Autometer ATM-2252, it's actually a Delphi 12160855 part.

If youve got to put a bushing in there too it should fit fine id think. This block i have here measured 1.625 from the outside of the block to bottomed out. It was 1/4npt not sure if tour aftermarket block would be the same or not though.

Thanks for checking that Sam, sounds like there is plenty room for that sensor probably.

Just a follow up on this, the Dart block doesn't have much room in it for a sensor to go in at all. If that delphi sensor will fit It'll be close, looks like it will likely bottom out. I'll have to rig up something different or find another place for the sensor.

Hey John, stupid suggestion, could you tap a larger size hole and then use a hex bushing to adapt down to the sensor size and this might give you the extra depth you need?

I'm going to get the sensor first - it's 1/8" pipe, and the block is 1/4 pipe, so have to use a reducer which will help some. If that don't move it out enough I may have to make something else. No, don't want to drill on the block really if I can avoid it.

Ok, here's a suggestion, use a 1/4" close nipple, a 1/4" steel coupling which is about 1.125" long, then thread in your hex bushing reducer and you now have some extra depth.

If it's now located out too much, cut down the coupling.

Yeah I'm sure with some combination of fittings I can get something to work. I'm quite curious to see how block temp relates to ring seal.
