I'm not messing with mine till somebody tells me I have to. Not to mention, I have mufflers behind my collectors that have mounts bolted to the frame. My collectors aren't going anywhere.

From what I am reading John then you should be good....
3 different cars and 1000's of runs and never lost a collector yet...
Some of us just don't do any maintenance and that is where
these issues come from...

I'm wondering if a lot of it is the dragsters that have those huge borla collector mufflers on them. Vibration with a big weight on the end of the headers and no support fatigues things perhaps. Dunno, Never seen one of those fall off before.

Thinking tire shake with the dragsters also had an affect on them also...
Re: NHRA Mandated Collector Tethers? WTF?
I have a dragster with downswept headers with mufflers welded to the collecters and a support brace bolted to the rear of the cyl head to the muffler and 4 tabs on the collecter/tubes and that is still not good enough for the 2014 rule, I was told by NHRA tech inspectors in an email that I still have to have the tethering device, only if you put a 1/2 stich weld on all 4 pipes do you not have to have the tether device. I sent them multiple pictures and who made the setup(Ed Quay racecars) but to no avail, at least the cost has come down $50.00 so far on the one companies tethering device. OH HAPPY DAY.

Sell the headers and put zoomies on it. Fixed.
What's funny is I 've seen more Zoomies break on Pro Mods and fall off than I have collectors on slower cars.

Yeah, I'm not loking forward to spending for this either. It doesn't pay to go quicker than 10.00.

I watched a collector come off at Atco. Bolts were in the tabs and tight. The weld on the tab failed. The collector got under the tire and launched into the spectators legs. Two hurt, one seriously. Rules like these come around because a lot of racers don't check jack. And then when there is a spectator injury the tracks insurance gets involved and everyone pays. At the end of this season I welded my collectors on.

Re: NHRA Mandated Collector Tethers? WTF?
Can someone tell me, do I need these tethers for my car or is this rule for a specific class?
I don't use slide on collectors or anything like that, but I do have extensions that get bolted onto the header flange.
I saw where some say yes and then some say on bracket cars, they can't see this rule being enforced?

Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........

Re: NHRA Mandated Collector Tethers? WTF?
The answer is no. The rule specifies that the collector can be welded to the primary tube. So it is about a slip on collector. 3 3/8" bolts on the flange is not under the rule.
