I'm wanting to put some lexan windows in my car to lose some weight this winter. Curious if its worth the cost/work vs the weight savings . Mainly the back glass and 1/4 windows. John, I know you have done this do you remember the weight differences?

I'll dig around in my notes and see if I can find what the difference was...

I have been wondering the same thing, I would like to put 3/8" lexan in to replace my 1/4 windows and rear window, but if you plan to buy these as pre-cut pieces, I'd day you'd be spending more than what it's worth.

I've been thinking about getting a 4/8" sheet, which was around $120 and cutting them out myself using the original glass as templates.

I'd say the rear window on my car alone weighs 25 lbs. and the 1/4 windows weigh about 5 lbs. each, so I'm guessing I could possibly shed 25 lbs. by going to lexan?

How come so thick? Most windows are at most 1/4" thick.

3/8" work good with factory trim.

What type of screws are best for the back window?

There are several kits out there, most of them are using stainless steel counter sunk screws.
Here is a screw kit from Quarter-Max but you will still need the gasket: http://www.rjracecars.com/Window-Screw- ... dview.html
Here is a complete kit from Jerry Bickel: http://www.jerrybickel.com/windows-and- ... its-1.html

We used 3/16 Bruce, worked out pretty good.

Did you have to use a thicker gasket material then?

I used the OEM stuff like the Nova used on stock windshield. Dang can't think of the name of the stuff off hand.

Good deal. I just assumed guys were using self taping or sheet metal screws. Thanks

You'll want to buy that tool that Bickel and/or quarter max sells for counter sinking the screws in the lexan, makes it a lot easier to avoid screwing things up.
