Sometimes you win and sometimes you loose

Well we took the car to the track on Sat. Nice weather, was going to be a high of 84F, clear skies.
I had two goals, to see what the car does on motor only and then see if I can reach my goal of running a ten, with a 150 shot.
First run, I hit the best time on motor, 11.36 @ 117.64.
Went back to the pit, Ray and I installed the bottle and set the timing at 30.
Jets were 70 NOS/ 57 fuel, fuel pressure was at 5.5 psi, bottle pressure was at 900 psi.
Car left good off of the transbrake, was running down the track and around 3/4 way, I felt a slight hesitation, but stayed in it.
Right after crossing, the oil pressure warning light came on and the motor started dying, then as I started to come back the return road, it died and wouldn't restart. I thought maybe I blew the alternator belt off again, so I got out and check if it was still on and it was.
Motor was locked up.
I got towed back to the pits, and Ray started taking out the plugs, the whole even side was good, and then he got to #5 plug and found the ground and tip completely smashed. The #5 exhaust rocker was also very loose and if I'm correct, Ray said the spring looks to be compressed, so his thoughts were that either a valve dropped of a piston broke.
Only good news about this was, I ran a 10.43 @ 125.64
Now I'm not sure what to do next?
But like I was told, sometimes you win and sometimes you loose.....
Anyone have a spare motor they want to send my way..... :smt003 :smt003 :smt003

Congrat's on getting to the 10's, sorry about the high price! Carnage sucks. What kind of pistons did you have in it?

Here is what was noticed. I just installed new scorpion rocker arms, they are blue. My other ones were aluminum color. On the outside edges of the rocker arms, there are wear marks and there was also marks on the valve retainers. Didn't notice this on the other rocker arms because they were aluminum in color.
The valves in the heads are stock height and from what I was reading, if the valves are too short, this would cause this problem and to fix this, you would need lash caps.
I believe I got that right, so anyhow, from the looks of things, this was something that would have happened whether or not I was running nitrous.

Somebody put out an APB on a missing exhaust valve....LOL

Not sure what made the valve come apart, but we have some good ideas.

That's really bitter sweet man. Are you gonna build a 496 now?

Well, I'm going to be building something bigger than my 408, that's for sure.
I've been talking things over and I think we got a good plan of action, just need to find a 454 block in my area.
Mike Peters said he knows where one is at, but he won't drive it out to me........Gee....LOL

Yeah it is junk. The valve head got one good shot in and cracked it all. I had really thought the head was cracked from the valve head getting wedged in the seat. I never expected it to have cracked the block like that.
