Randy you got any ideas on a 12vdc RS232 Serial radio modem that would work ok for downloading from your data logger (and MSD)? Would sure be a lot handier than hauling the laptop to the car everytime, plugging in, etc. Is there something cheap out there that would work?

There are several radio modems available, but the reasonably priced ones run at very low speed. Downloading the typical run with one of those would take way too long. The ones that can run at the same speed as the data logger are several hundred dollars, but they should work.

You can run a long cable from the trailer to the car instead of carrying the computer to the car.

Once we get the major expansion development done, we are planning to do a new type of remote download capability.

Regards,

Randy

Was hoping there might be something cheap to use.. Just trying to avoid another line for someone to trip over walking around the car

Be interested to see what you come up with..

Thanks Randy

Be careful with this idea. It gets into the "no wireless communication" section of NHRA rules. Someone may use it against you some day.

Dave,

You are right about the rule and its possible problems. I believe its intention is for no wireless comm during the race itself for real time data, and a download only function may be acceptable. Of course, that remains to be seen and we will need approval before releasing any product of that nature.

Corsa has the radio download built into their latest deal and have been wondering/concerned that this rule might bite them.

I am sure a smart guy could figure out how to make the car radio controlled but why? What can you accomplish in 8 seconds or less?
