driveshaft RPM how to?

#1 Post by DOTracer » Sun Jun 11, 2006 6:20 pm

Hello,

I'm seriously considering purchasing the basic data logger kit. I'd like to know how the magnets should be attached to the pinion yoke. One person mentioned drilling holes and epoxying the magnets in while on the web site I see two slip collars.

Here's what my pinion setup looks like on a 12 bolt Chevy with a Denny's Driveshaft 1350 series billet yoke.

Image

The shank portion where the seal rides is 1.750" diameter and the gap between the pinion seal and the step is right around .300".

Where are the magnets/slip collor typically located?

I assume due to forward/rearward movement that attaching the slip collar to the pinion yoke would not work?

Thanks
Todd

Todd,

The Split Collar is .300" thick, so it probably won't fit between the seal and the step, but from your picture, it would fit in the "saddle" portion of the yoke. You may need to machine the ID of the collar some to get a good fit, but it should work fine. Then you would need to fabricate a bracket to hold the sensor. Mounting holes can be drilled in the "web" fins on the rear end to hold the bracket.

Randy

Hey Randy,

Thanks for the reply.

On the split collar, does it come apart into two halves? It wouldn't slip over either large end to fit in the "saddle" if it was simply one piece with a split to allow tightening.

I had to narrow my split collar on my 12 bolt rear with a Mark Williams yolk. It was a Racepak collar. ---Matt

Heres a picture of the collar we sell. They come standard for the ford nine inch, you will have to adapt it to your unit. The collar splits in half

hope the picture helps
