It's time for more testing!

#1 Post by supernova » Tue May 15, 2012 11:04 am

I'm ready once again to head out for more test. The transmission is rebuilt, the converter has been completely changed for the better I hope, and I'm ready to go!!!!!!!
The converter was loosened up about 1200 rpm's and is set to only drop 800 rpm's and the gear shift. It was dropping 1800 rpm's at the gear change after the rear end gear change to 4.56's. My car weighs over 3500 lbs and needs the gear to help move it.

We will know on Friday night what the changes did and will post up the results. So stay tune!!!!

It's run 5.60's at 125 mph.

Any guesses on how much it might pick up? I'm thinking if the converter lets the motor run it will pick up .25-.35 in et and 6-10 mph.

It would be nice to see a 5.4/5.3 "IF" you did what you said you were going to do to the converter.

I'm just hoping "IF" you did what you were saying, that the converter company got their chit together or
could this be the new companies debut in your car?

I gave them a chance to adjust the one they sent to me and they did it for free. Now if it doesn't work, it a new converter company for me. Free is free and they owed me so we will know on Friday night.......

Is this still the 1.80 gear glide? And you went to 4.56's rear? 8.208 SLR or so... I have a good idea how that's gonna work.. I don't think that gear was a good idea....

Well, The rear gear is the easiest thing to change. If it's not right it will be changed. At this time it is what is in the car and we will soon see what it does. May even test on Thursday night.

Well, let's just say it's going to be harder to hook it. Might want to turn down the start % a bit lol..

I'v already had it out with this gear and it didn't have a traction problem of coarse the converter has been changed now and I hope it hits the tire harder. With 55% on the nose , I'v learned the harder I hit it the better it leaves. I know I could put more nitrous in it but I also know what it's asking for and it isn't nitrous. All the testing I'v done sence putting the 572 in it has pointed to more gear and more converter now it has both (Checked the stall on the brake, 5500 rpm) Not every combination works the same.

In general, that's more gear than what most want to attempt run on this kind of setup, you know that. But, hey, if it's working for ya, it's all good.

I'm taking it to TNT tonight. Not going to wait until Friday. My set is not what it used to be. It's a ladder bar coil over set up with 29.5"-10.5" slicks. It's not on drag radials or the 28"-10.5" tire anymore. And so far it has not had traction problems or done anything stupid. It just wanted more gear and converter so that's what I gave.

So this is how my day went.
Two flats on the trailer, "nails" one spare. You know how that goes.

Ok, the best mph and et it has ever run. I set the nitrous controller at 50% all in in 1.5 just to get a base line. It went 5.66 at 126 mph on a very soft hit. There is a lot left in the tune up, timing, fuel, playing with the nitrous controller, shock setting. Things like that.
I really fell like the converter is 100% better. The graphs show the converter is doing what it's set up to do now. It looks great!
What we set out to do was test the converter to see where it was at and we did just that. Now I did throw more at it To see what would happen and it got ugly off the starting line. One full pass and two aborts showed me it now is going to need some chassis and suspension tuning and maybe even coil over spring change.
I really feel we have something to work with now.

The bad thing here is I now have to fix a oil leak that has shown up.

Stay tuned for more progress.

Flats suck.. Changing flats on the highway near oncoming traffic sucks even more..

Sounds like you made some progress, that's good. Where's our video???
