master cylinder question

#1 Post by Hitchcock » Mon Jul 09, 2012 8:49 pm

I'm using a stock dodge truck master cylinder for my car. My question is, do any of you guys know what the port sizes are on these. They are different sizes front to back. The rear port is I believe .500, and is the smaller of the two ports. thanks guys

Should be 9/16-20 and 1/2-20 BUT it's possible you might have 9/16-18 on the front, you'll have to check.

Ok, so I got the zinc coated steel adapters from Jegs. I have the 9/16-20 and 1/2-20. The 1/2 fits perfect. The 9/16, threads in clean and bottoms out on the nut, before the taper engages the flare. The -20 and -18 your refering to is the thread count right? If it is, whats the deal on the fitting being to short to engage the flare?i Or is the -18 and -20 some other unit of measure that I missed and ordered the wrong fitting.

No, you got it right. If it screwed in all the way, you have the right thread pitch (20), just the wrong style adapter. I'd suggest taking the one that is too short to O'Rielly's or Autozone, whatever and ask to pick through their fittings till you find a longer one.

Guess somebody screwed up... I can tell ya the one I used was for regular brake line fittings, not the 3 AN setup, you might have to do some looking around to find a longer one with that outlet.

Looks like my options are, plumb it without the an fitting, mill the master cylinder bung down, or get a strange cylinder that uses 1/2-20 on both ports. Shit... guess I will skip the an fittings on that port... :smt013
