Good Weekend for Me.
Ok, first I want to say, sorry Chris for the tranny boom-boom, but glad you got somewhere with your suspension setup
I recently helped rebuild my P/G and needed to check things out to make sure it works, so I decided to fire it up this weekend and give it a shot to see if there were any issues and I'm glad to report, there were no issues, with the tranny that is.
I did have a small question, is it normal for when you sit in the car, kick down the throttle and the tires make that squeally sound? Mine did and I can't figure out why it's doing that
Anyhow, I had my fun but had a few questions to run by you, first I noticed my volt gauge was only at 13 volts, is that ok?
I thought it should be around 14 or more? But then I remembered, there was a 50% under-driven pulley running my alternator, would that cause this issue? What if I put on a deep pulley on the alternator, would that help?
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but when I held the brake on, I nailed the throttle and felt it lock up around 2500rpm, that's considered my flash speed, correct?
Other then my shifter needing to be adjusted a little (the pointer on my shifter was off by one position for some reason?) everything worked good.

Re: Good Weekend for Me.
Your alternator is spinning fast enough to charge I would imagine. When you get up in the RPMs does the voltmeter move up?
I don't think that is your flash speed, I think flash is the rpm it goes up to instant you smash the gas.

Bruce, dump the 50% underdrive pulley. Today's ignition need all the battery voltage they can get. That pulley will eventually bite you.
Also to check the stall speed - roll down the road in high gear ( about 20 mph) and smack the throttle. Watch the tach - where it stops is the convertor's flash point.

Problem with that is, I can't find a single crank pulley, for a long water pump. Everything I found was either a double or triple groove pulley.Hookdaddy wrote:Bruce, dump the 50% underdrive pulley. Today's ignition need all the battery voltage they can get. That pulley will eventually bite you.
What if I increased the pulley size on the alternator?

Re: Good Weekend for Me.
nope that would slow it more. put a double groove pulley on it and just use 1 groove.

No, Don isn't my dad, although he has scolded me enough over the years, he might as well be my dad.
He's a great guy though, and I'm lucky to have gotten to know him.

Re: Good Weekend for Me.
Hey Bruce, like Don said, when you check the stall you want to make sure the engine is loaded (traction). Drive in high gear real slow and mash the throttle. The rpm the motor jumps to is your stall. If the tires spin it is useless.
Is there a reason why you are using a long water pump? 13 volts isn't bad but should lean towards 14 without a major load (like a fan).

Now you did it, his head is going to swell......wheels wrote:Hey Bruce, like Don said......
I was using the long style pump and had the low mount alternator bracket for it and I was concerned about throwing the belt, so I found this single pulley with one grove made by B&B to replace the factory original pulley, which is long gone.wheels wrote:Is there a reason why you are using a long water pump? 13 volts isn't bad but should lean towards 14 without a major load (like a fan).

Re: Good Weekend for Me.
Just so everyone knows, Don worked for S&W Racecars, I think he said for like 20 or 30 years and now has since retired.
Him and his son, Kevin have a real nice rear engine dragster which of course was made by S&W.
I think he's here to stalk me....

March Performance for the pulley.
I had one on my BBC a couple years back. Long water pump, single groove, approx 30% reduction if I recall.
