Hard to Believe....

#1 Post by Bruce69Camaro » Mon Oct 14, 2013 7:38 am

Yes this is going to be hard for some of you to believe, but I have a friend  that just joined here this past Friday and he owns, here it goes....a Nova and a Chevelle.....

This guy goes to the same church that I do and now I need to included him in prayer for owning these two cars and not a Camaro....

Hopefully he will see this and reply.

He goes by bracketchev1221.......

Welcome buddy, you'll fit in just right with these Nova guys but let me pre-warn you about this certain Chevelle guy....he's not right... :smt101 and whatever they say about me, it isn't true, well maybe some is.. ;)

Well Hitch, I need to admit to something. There is a Vette in my family but it belongs to my father-in-law.

It's a 79 with a 383/ 4 speed, not a bad car, just needs to work. The thing pings like you would not believe and I keep telling him to take it over to Keith's and he'll check the timing and adjust the distributor but he keeps taking it back to the guy he bought it from and I'm not having too much faith in that guy.

But bracketchev1221 has some nice looking cars. I haven't seen the Chevelle yet, (big tires, big block) but I have seen the Nova and it is nice.

Hi guys, the person in need of help is me. I just joined on Friday. I've been a bracket racer for almost 25 years, and just enjoy the mechanical aspect of racing. The Chevelle is a big block car and the Nova is a little small block street car.

Nice looking cars. What are the specs on the Chevelle. Spill it now, or I'll have to nag you. Ask the other guys, I'm a stickler for details.

The Chevelle is a back half, ladder bar car. All steel except for hood and bumpers at 3200 lbs. It has all the original glass except the 1/4 windows because they wouldn't clear the wheel tubs. It has the stock dash, door panels and carpets in it. As far as the engine, I call it a Summit catalog built 540, t-400 and a 12 bolt rear. The car has gone 9.03 at 148 mph and 60' at 1.26. Just to clarify, the car is NOT an SS. It was a green 307 malibu. I wouldn't have cut it up if it was.

Ok, lets see. The heads are 355 CC Dart Pro 1 heads, with a .788/.762 275/287@.050 roller cam. It should be 14:1 compression with JE moly rings, with an Edelbrock Super Victor intake. The converter is a 5500 converter from Select Performance in NY. I run it on 112 Sunoco blue gas, and the carb was done by Dale Cubic at CFM carbs. The interior has 2 racing buckets, with the carpet, door panels and dash still in. The rear shocks are single adjustable Strange shocks with 130 springs and the front are Koni SPA-1 shocks. I leave off the transbrake at 4600 and shift at 7500. It crosses around 76-7700. I mostly run the car at Maple Grove and Cecil county dragway.

Now we're getting somewhere! Thanks for the info, you're killing it with the 540. Only thing that would melee it cooler, if it was in my shop. I do dig a cool Chevelle.

Sweet pair of cars you've got there, your Nova looks like a fun streeter.

Thanks. The nova is a good running car. It is an original SS350 and still has the numbers matching block. I tried to resist the idea of building a race car, so I stuck with the 350. Its a 355, Eagle forged crank, Scat 7/16" rods and 10:1 SRP pistons. Even though they are better parts, it still matches the 10:1 compression of the L-48 engine it came with. Its got AFR 195cc heads on it, with a .535/.550 hydraulic roller cam, Harland Sharp rockers, Performer RPM and a 750. It has an M-21 4 speed and a 4.10 12 bolt rear. The car is quick enough for a street car and it has power brakes. I do have the 186 casting heads from it in the basement.
