Engine is coming out of Chevelle for the dyno.

#1 Post by bracketchev1221 » Tue Nov 12, 2013 9:34 am

Due to a family issue, I didn't make it to the track for the last time. And being that I am helping Bruce go over his Camaro this winter, I figured I better find some power in mine. The car didn't quite show the power I thought it should have, so rather than waste money in entry and gas to go the track to test its going on the dyno. I have a few things I want to try and this will at least get me in the ball park. The car right now is still running its 9.0's to 9.1's. I have set it up to go to Jensen Technologies for the run. I am going after, timing, jetting, carb spacers, oil levels, and anything else I can throw at it. The car weighs 3170 with driver. Who wants to guess what it will make? I am hoping for 25 hp gain. I think its between 850-875 now.

That's right buddy...and you better keep an eye on the rearview mirror or wait, never mind, just keep looking out the front because you'll be seeing the back half of my car....LOL

Oh I'm sorry, I thought this was Mike Somebodyoranother, that I was talking too.

I'm guess 857hp.

850-ish seems pretty reasonable.

I've seen the Supersucker spacers make a surprising difference on some manifolds. Not cheap but I've seen about 25 hp before. Not all engines will respond that way though.

I found a little over 20 hp on my motor after my 1050 Holley was maxed out by switching to a 1050 Quick Fuel. Too bad I didn't have the money to buy the carb that day.

I do have a Wilson 1" 4 hole tapered spacer that I will be trying. I bought it years ago, and think it works. I have used it, but the Super Victor had a 1" open on it when I got it, and the intake porter put another 1" open on it. I think the 4 hole is a better spacer. I want to prove it. The other thing is I think I have a little bit of a reversion issue. The 4 hole may help that with the tapered bottom to redirect the gases. The safety plate under the dominator has some gray carbon on it, so there is nothing blocking the gases. I did loosen the intake lash .003 which should open the intake valve later to reduce overlap and reversion. I am trying to find an anti reversion plate, but you need the proper spacer to go with it. Otherwise the anti reversion plate is covered over by a regular open spacer. I just hate to spend $150 for a anti reversion plate if the 4 hole will do the same thing. I am space limited with the 4" cowl hood so I need to be careful of moving the carb too close to the hood.

I'd just like to say, with all my help, Ray's motor is out of his car.

It was a tough job but I operated the engine hoist boom pretty darn good. I think I also helped put a bolt in the transmission bell housing through the mid plate and I know I did handle the front motor plate as well.

But I had a bigger job to do and that was taking care of his dog, Bisquit.

Ray just how did you do it without me all these years...... lmao2:

Guys if any of you are looking for a nice, factory Nova SS, he has one!

That was nothing, you have to see the act to get a T-400 in that car underneath alone. Putting the car on 4 jackstands and using 1 floor jack. Oh yeah, and the trans has to be slid under the car AND THEN on to the floor jack while under the car. As of right now, the tentative date for the dyno is Jan 7 2014.

The motor is in the truck and ready to go. I'll fill you in tomorrow with the numbers. I am looking for gains over peak power. I know how fast it goes. I need it to run quicker.

That's Mister Somebodyoranother to you!!! Doesn't really matter which Chevelle you line up against now does it lil bro? Results would be the same. Just handier for Ray to put you in your place. :-P

Second pull for Ray, 898HP....

Mikey my big bro....I got to admit, I would have nothing for Ray. My only chance would be that the sun hits my car just right and blinds him with a bright orange glow just enough to get me far out of the hole first to grab the win.

I'm just glad for him that he is getting these great numbers and I hope I'm there with him when he hits his first 8....
