Got the front clip pulled off today and pulled motor back out. I bought some solid lower mounts from summit and plan on getting them in the next day or so.

Not sure what part of the old mount I should cut off, I don't know if I should cut everything off down to the cross member of if I should just unbolt the mount from the plate welded to the frame.

Any Opinions???

Cut the entire mount off. That is a late model like late 70s motor mount. On early cars the rubber was in the block mount and the frame stand was solid.

Well the only thing maybe useable is the crank and rods. Otherwise it's junk.

So should I look for another 454? If not would a 355 small block do ok?

Well, it all comes down to ease of power. A 355 COULD be built to go low 7's in the 1/8. However it is much easier to do it with a much milder 454. I would go for a 525-550hp 454 and run under the index anywhere under any conditions.

Yeah you need to find the stock lower mounts for that, the ones you have aren't the right ones.

Don't bet on the #'s on the block, check the bore and stroke.

Pull a head and measure the cylinder diameter. And you can pull the pan and get the casting number off the crank. But a simple thing to check is a 366 was a tall deck block. If the water pump is about 1/2" from the deck then it's either a 366 or a tall deck 427.

I will have to look at it when I get home but I don't have a water pump on it. It does have two thermostats in it though.

Also why aren't the solid mounts I have pictured the right ones? Not trying to argue but I specifically ordered them for a 68 camaro with a 396.

The lower frame mounts is what they are referring to as the wrong ones. You will need the stock style BBC stands to use the motor mounts you bought...

Got ya, I do have those on the way as well coming off ebay. Honestly disappointed though now. I bought a BUNCH of parts for a 454 and now don't have one.

My question is, why did this guy weld the frame mounts to the sub frame?

If this is a 366 would there be any reason to relocate the frame mounts?

If you decide to go with a small block, guess what, you'll need new frame mounts.
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........
