My combo is an IHRA Stock Eliminator Buick NA 455 Stage 2. Since the motor combo is restricted I have spent a lot of time sorting out the rest of the car. Front shocks are QA1 DA coilovers and rear shocks are DA Alston Varishocks (not coilovers). Calvert bars and spit mono's. I leave off footbrake o...

Split Mono Calverts

I run the split mono Calverts on my Apollo (combo similar to yours, 3450#, 9 inch hoosier Radial slick, stock suspension, BB Buick) with great results. I was also inconsistent until I switched to the heaviest (stiffest) front half that they make. I used their back half that lowers car about 1-1 1/2 ...

Hoosier Radial Slicks

Rob, The Hoosier Drag Radials work great BUT the car must dead hook and not spin or it won't recover like a bias ply slick. I run the 30x9 CO6 (lightweight)compound on my Apollo weighing about 3450# and on my GS I run the 30x9 CO7 (heavier) at 3600#. Both cars run 9's with 1.27-1.28 short times but ...

16V

I have run 16v batteries in my 3 race cars for several years. On one I run an East Coast 16v alternator. I have my Meziere water pumps and Magnafuel fuel pumps set up to run on 16v. All other components including 7531 Msd, Autometer play back gauges, O2 sensors, factory lights and equipment run fine...

Dave, I tow with an enclosed 48' triple axle gooseneck trailer. It has leaf springs and 2 HD shocks on each axle. The shocks are on a 30 degree angle. I run QA1 coilover double adjustable shocks on the front of both my Apollo and Buick GS. Out back both cars have DA Alston Vari-shocks. I increase ai...

BBC505, Several things I learned in trying to get consistent launches out of my 1974 455 Buick Apollo (3350#) which doesn't have your HP but does have a lot of torque. MSD digital 7 programmable ignition needed Double adjustable shocks front and back important Hoosier 9x30 radial. Use lightweight CO...

John, Great site! I've picked up a few tips already, especially for my Apollo. Best time for both GS (9.75 @ 136.5, 3400# ) and Apollo ( 9.51 @ 138.5, 3350#) are in IHRA Top Stock trim (original heads up class for fastest IHRA/NHRA stock class cars). 1970 Stage 2 455 Buick motors built to stock spec...

Hoosier Slicks

Ron, I have run the Hoosier 9" x 30" radial slicks on both my Buick Stocker and Super Stocker since 1996 with excellent results. I run them on either a 9" or 10" rim and do not go below 22# of air. If track is real tight I run 24#. I also rotate them every race (5-6 runs) as it i...
