Re: Best 18 degree head out there?
The intake contacts no water or oil, the SB2 uses a valley tray and with a standard deck height block a normal distributor works fine. On the Dart Iron Eagle and Aluminum blocks, they changed the distributor angle 1˚ that moves the distributor over a little. On a 9.300 deck it requires a slip collar...

Re: Best 18 degree head out there?
Pistons and cam up everything is different. That one also has SB2 lifter bores, but not a requirement.

Re: 434 or 377
If you go the 434 route I would highly suggest using a 2" rod journal. Don't let anyone try to tell you it will be too weak, Pro Stock runs Honda 1.88 rods and 283 mains at 500 inches. Your clearance issues will be minimal with a 2" rod, the large journal has issues not only with the block...

Not uncommon for a dual plane. What are you using it for, street only , street/strip or strip only? What are the rest of the engine specs, converter/trans...

Re: Converter help
The closer you can get to around 200-300 RPM over peak torque on yours the better it will ET. It could even stand more than 4500 with the combo you have, you have to decide how much you want to live with on the street. Using the smallest core to get in the range you want will help with slippage, a 1...

Re: Converter help
My suggestion would be a tight 9", more like 4500 stall for best ET. Something that locks well after the stall. Why take it on 150 mile trips? Thats a lot of cam and tight LSA to run that far...

Re: A/trans. hp losses
No problem. Anytime you have optimized combos, class cars like super stock, comp eliminator... the extra gear does help. And usually those cars have the best suspension setups and race at tracks with better than average track prep. The same with heavy, low powered vehicles. A glide is usually more e...

Re: A/trans. hp losses
My point was the actual weight, close to 100 lbs difference will help ET. Rotating weight as well, saves HP loss. And I still think the right converter helps overcome the loss of the extra gear, but it's all relative to the combination it's going into as well. And the aluminum converter does look ni...

Re: A/trans. hp losses
Well, actual weight of the trans is a factor, hard to get a 400 as light as a glide. Worth a little ET. Next, the glide helps cars with too much HP for the suspension, it may be a cop out on fixing the suspension but it works. And I think if the car has the proper gear and converter, the converter w...
