Re: Why is alternator heating up?

This is happening when the electric cutoff is on and all switches are in the off position. I haven't even charged the battery from the last race yet! Thanks for the input.

Why is alternator heating up?

Alright, I just noticed this after putting my engine back in. With the engine OFF, the alternator heats up. I just happened to notice the pulley was warm so I checked the rest of it and it's definitely warm without the engine running. This is a 3 wire denso mini mounted to the frame(engine is mounte...

Re: Headers???!!!!!!

I run the headman hustler 2 1/4X4 on 555 on a 67 camaro (might be the same part number) and they fit great but minimal spark plug clearance, I have to run shorty plugs.

Re: Could converter be bad?

Thanks Marty, I'm putting my converter from my 555in and see what happens. It stalled at 6200 in that motor I'm hoping for around 5000 in the 406.
Thanks, Keith

Re: Could converter be bad?

To tell the truth, it's hard to say because the et is all over the place and the finish line rpm varies. I've only run 1/8 mile and it varies how long it stays at the shift rpm until it starts climbing again. It did mph between 96-104!

Re: Could converter be bad?

Thanks Marty, I haven't had the engine dynoed but am guessing peak tq at around 5000 and hp around 6500. 406, 11.5:1, 260/264@.050", ported vi Jr heads, 1.80 glide, 4.56 w/32 tall tire, around 2850lbs.
Thanks, Keith

Could converter be bad?

I thought it might be the carb at first but am leaning toward converter. Leaving at 4200 the car acts like the converter is tight, gets out a ways then accelerates real quick. On the shift at 6700 it drops to around 5,200 and stays there for a bit and then starts accelerating, almost like it's too l...

Re: valve spring?

Hi Jason, I'm running the Nextek 221424 spring with a UDHarold cam, 284/292,.825/.775 cam and they work great. Have yet to see how many runs I can get out of them as they only have 10 so far.

Re: opinions?

Yes, Madras is my home track. Ran 5.75 @ 119 at the nostalgia race this year. I run a hughes 9.5" with 6000+ and leave at 5400. With 200lbs difference I would think you could get to your goal with minimal changes.

Re: opinions?

Hey 427, I also run a 555 but with AFR 345 heads and I'm 3,000lb with a Harold Brookshire cam with 284/292 @ .050 and I run 5.70's and maybe 5.60's next year with some tuning and with NO nitrous! Those heads and the proper cam should get you to 5.90. What converter are you running? PS. I haven't run...

Re: Ohio crank?

Hi there speedracer, I'm running an Ohio Crankshaft short block for the third year and have no problem with the parts, assembly was a little iffy. It's a 555 and I turn it 75-7700 with no issues on freshen up as far as parts go.

Re: e85 ?

Thanks Novaz, that is helpful but maybe I need to check availiability in OR first! Can one get it in a drum? Looks like E85 would be an excellent option.

Re: e85 ?

Hi Mark, I run a 555 with almost 13:1 and Sunoco 110. With the price of race fuel being so high I have been interested in E85 and was wondering if this is too much compression and if not have you seen gains to be had switching in this combo?
Thanks,
Keith

Re: Off balance ?

Hi John, I ran stagered jetting with my supervictor on my 406 and that too was to get the plug coloring equal. I think a dual plane would make it even more necessary. Do what you got to do to make it run best!

Re: What's the best?

Hi there super, I've been running the standard CSR pump on my 555 and it must have a good flow rate for drag racing because even in mid July and August it's very easy to keep the coolant temp under control. Good Luck!
