Re: bad cam?

After going thru everything I had the crank checked. The crank was out 8 degrees. #1 was right is why when I degred it came out right but after checking from the keyway back it was out 8 degrees. So when I thought it was right it really was 116 not a 108 and was retarded. I have got a 454 steel cran...

Re: convertor for a 496

I dont have a 7AL and no data logger. Im thinking on trying hyd oil its thicker and was told it would tighten it up around 500 rpm. That would make it around 5500. Im gona see if its any differant. For the most part I have allways ran a stall of or around 5100. The stall I had made for this engine w...

Re: bad cam?

I ran the car and the only thing I had changed was the coil and the engine to a 496 and it ran fine. 6.23 @ 108 mph. I think the mph is a little slow but other than that was pretty good.

convertor for a 496

I have a 496 running 6.23 @ 108 mph with a stall of 6000 and shifting @ 6800, going thru the beams around 7000. I think my mph is slow for this set up. Do you think the stall I have is right or should I change it? Any Ideas?

Re: bad cam?

I used the bullet, 276/284@ 50, 731/731, about the same cam you had listed. I got it running last night sounds good if anything. I have been fighting the gremlin and had the msd box checked, ok. I replaced the coil and checked the distributor and it ohmed where it was suppose to be. My msd guy did s...

Re: bad cam?

I did replace the coil to be safe. I checked the plugs they looked great but E85 dont foul like gas does. I ordered a cap and rotor. I did a presure check and it was low. 135 low to 155 high. That might mean that the cam is retarted. I did think about my presure regulator that I put on. Seems that a...

Re: bad cam?

I went thru the MSD box a couple yrs ago and had the 6AL refurb and bought a 6ALN and replaced. wire was one last season and the plugs are new. Springs are one season old . I have only made 6 total passes on the engine. 4 on the 10.1 compression and then 2 on the 13.1 set up. First pass was 6.84. an...

Re: bad cam?

I had the two regs for years, just thought it was to much of a dead head fuel and hurting my black holley pump. Im running E85 with a #8 fuel line all the way to the regulator. then I used two #8 fuel hose from the reg to the carb. I have a small alum filter in it. A long time ago with one reg it wa...

Re: bad cam?

I did take off two holley regulators and put on a 3 port with a return. I thought that would be better to use then the two holleys. I set it at 7 lbs, But it under the hood at the reg. I could get another one and put it in the car. Its just seems odd that all I did was pull a motor out and put it in...

Re: bad cam?

The springs was new last season. I put a new fuel regulator on it with a bypass. When I warmed the car up and got in to it it ran fine. But when under a load and down the track it wouldnt open up from the start. It ran a 6.84 first pass, 2nd it went a 6.69. The Msd box is 2 seasons old but no issue'...

Re: bad cam?

I changed the cam and that didnt fix it. I have no Idea what to do next. The only thing I didnt change was crank, block and timing set. But it did degree so I dont like it would be that.

Re: bad cam?

I will call bullet and see but if they just ground it off from where it was at it would stay the same. All I know is I have built this engine twice with differant heads pistons and rods and still have the same issue.
