Re: Bracing for subframe mod

Yeah the 1/4 is overkill but I’ve got it.

Re: Bracing for subframe mod

John, what’s your opinion on making the tube section removable? I’d still plate it with 1/4” with welded nuts on the backside, then use 3/16 flanges on the 1 5/8 tube(s). Maybe use 3 3/8 Bolts on the flanges.

Re: Bracing for subframe mod

Thanks again. Mine’s street driven a lot (no worry about hard landings from wheelies). Just concerned with flex, but then again the engine will be in it essentially tying it altogether!

Re: Bracing for subframe mod

Thanks John. What did you end up doing in the area cut out? I planned on a 1.625 tube across with two 1.0 tube angled kickers. All .120 wall with 3/16 plate on each side to box cap old crossmember.

Bracing for subframe mod

I plan on cutting out the center section of the main crossmember under the oil pan (where the notch is currently) on my Nova subframe and replacing it with tubing to give me room to remove the oil pan without pulling the engine. My question is, if I brace it across with angle like the picture, would...

Re: Poor prep and radials

I’m planning on running NMCA True Street at the end of July. I like to drive it there, compete and drive it home without changing anything. There’s a good chance I’ll have a different tire on it by then. But if I can get these to work, I’ll leave em on. I know it’d probably be easier (and possibly q...

Re: Poor prep and radials

Well as it goes, I was looking for a tire that would last. Now I pay! It’s a 275/60. I’ve run em at 20 psi, 19, 17 and they seem to like 15 a lot.

Re: Poor prep and radials

I’m starting to get it figured out somewhat. It’s definitely a cross between a settings for a slick and a radial as far as shocks go. Along with some fairly precise and aggressive power management. Seems we’re making progress, just need to keep at it. I’ll keep you posted.

Poor prep and radials

Ok guys, need a little help here. I’ve got a ‘70 Nova on a Nitto 275 drag radial. I run a turbo 5.3, th400 and a 3.31 gear. Caltracs, Landrum monos, sliders, plenty of travel front and rear. Viking DAs all around. I run the bars in the bottom hole with 1/2 turn preload. Conventional spring up front ...
