Re: Ozark Raceway
I have always liked this track. Came here a few years ago to watch the shootout race which occured on the Car Craft Street Machine Fall Nationals weekend. The weather was great, but for some reason Car Craft moved the Fall Nationals to Little Rock, Arkansas. Anyone who has been to both towns knows S...

Re: took the new car to the track
Soooooo, 7800 rpm too much? Lots of guys are doing it with great sucess. Yeah piston speed means friction. But there is an upside to it. A higher mean piston speed also pulls the piston down from top dead center faster, creating a more acute pressure drop in the intake runner. Thus increasing veloc...

Re: Bowtie Blocks
Just get the more expensive lifters, G.M. and the aftermarket discovered that taller lifters help stabilize the valvetrain. Do not cut the block, if your machinist tries to talk you into this find another machinist.

Re: A/trans. hp losses
Even with the added transmission weight, more gears are better, until you get to a spot where you have too much power, then decreases in power results in better E.T.s and trap speeds. The new cars have six and seven speed transmissions with lockup converters. If fewer gears worked better the Pro Sto...

Re: took the new car to the track
You go running a BBC 7800 in the lights you'll have pieces of what used to be your 565. You have a 4.25" stroke and at 7800 your piston speed is on the moon. That isn't a small block, it would be a much better idea to add a little more nitrous instead of changing gears, if anything go higher on...

Re: got some good numbers today on the dyno
A vacuum pump can add as much as 55 h.p. with low drag rings. With 1/16 rings my old 540 made an extra 26 rwhp.

Re: 1/4 mile time?
Oldsmobiles don't need a lot of gear but something along the lines of 3.55-3.73 might make some difference. Mid 12s would be my guess, who ported the heads?

Re: A/trans. hp losses
That altered should be real easy to get moving no matter which kind of transmission you have. At 1500 lbs. the 'glide will probably be as fast as a T-400 and be more consistant to boot. Sounds like a very good racecar. The gear, tire and engine size seem very well matched. Either transmission would ...

Re: HP rating for factory block
The old tall deck 505 I had in my car was making I'd guess 800 hp or so N/A, would run 9.90's @ 3400 with tall gears and tight converter, 8.70's on a 300 shot but could have went faster with more tuning I think. It was a filled block that originally came from an old promod with a big ol huffer on i...
