Intake Manifold Water Lines
What are the water lines running front to back on each side of the manifold on this SBC for? I assume they are for pressure equalization or ??? Are they worth adding to my small block? My intake has the bosses for them...

Re: Nova Mini Tub / Leaf Spring Relocation Q???
Thanks a lot John, for the answers and info. But it seems I always have more questions!!! Ol' Blue has been through two mini-tubs projects now, the last one was to gain more tire clearance so I could run 29.5x10.5S's on 12" rims almost 2 years ago. The rear frame has been heavily notched, there...

Nova Mini Tub / Leaf Spring Relocation Q???
My new 408 is giving my old 9 inch Quick Time Pros fits, 60 ft times are not so good. So for my next project I'm gonna mini tub the rear and move the leaf springs inboard like that described on John's Nova (Old Blue) in this post --> ( leaf spring relocation kit ). I had a few questions after readin...

LOL! It's 60 degrees and sunny today in CA (sorry ). The weather is the only good thing about California these days...Hitchcock wrote:It's 25 degrees in Wichita right now. I'm sure its very close to that where John is at. Right now anything with enough air temp to race is warm. I hate winter!!

Got my new 408 to the Track !!!
Well, I finally got some runs in on the new 408 (see this thread for engine details), at the CA Dragway NHRA Street Legal Drags. There were a TON of cars this day as this was the last race of the year. Here’s a quick rundown on my setup: 71 Nova 3550 lbs w/ driver (ugh!) 408 SBC running thru 2.5 inc...

Welcome Clint! Your among friends here (and a lot of Novas)! Losta good info here.

Re: New Engine for the Nova
71 Nova where do you run the car? I don't remember any tracks near Santa Maria. The closest I can think of is Fomoso. Real bummer about engine #1. I hope the builder took good care of you. Yup, I race at Famoso (Bakersfield) and Calif. Speedway in Fontana. Yea, the builder gave me the block at what...

Re: New Engine for the Nova
I have to ask why you would run a 4.030 bore and a 4 inch arm in an aftermarket block ? if you are using a dart block then why not go with a 4.155 bore ? The engine originally had a 350 truck block clearanced for the 4" stroker crank. But the clearancing hit the water jacket, and when I sent t...

Re: New Engine for the Nova
The engine has a Mallory large cap Unilite distributor locked out for the crank trigger. The Unilite portion of the distributor is unused. Sorry for the confusion.HPDRIFTER wrote:So, I gotta ask: Why does you motor spec sheet list both a Mallory Unilite distributor and a Moroso Crank Trigger?

Re: New Engine for the Nova - Update
OK I haven’t updated this for a while, so it's time I did. Had some difficulty with the 1st engine. Got the 408 running, sounded great. After the initial startup, I was checking bolt tightness and cranked a bit on the oil pan plug. Just so happens I went the wrong way, cracked open the drain plug an...
