Re: Firewall Project

I have a couple junk pneumatic cylinders (used some of the parts for the English Wheel) that just happen to be 4" I.D. aluminum. I made sleeves out of them to slip over the 4" O.D. tube. So the joints are pretty beefy. We'll see what happens. :?:

Re: Firewall Project

There's is some give in the boot on the carb. There will be a boot on the ProCharger. I called Steve Morris just to see what he thought before I decided to go this route. He says bands are the way to go with a tube chassis, solid body & Motor/Mid plates. I've seen a couple with nothing but V-Ban...

Re: Firewall Project

Thanks Mike. I'll have to ponder this, to see if I should go gear drive for reliability. :?:

Re: Firewall Project

Thanks wikd69. Thanks for the info. John. I'll have to look into that. I'll have to research what the initial $$$ difference is. If it's not a huge difference it sounds like it might be made up in less maintenance $$$. That would keep the Pro Charger head lower too. I'm not sure what my hood clearan...

Re: Firewall Project

Any reason not to go with the gear drive? Besides $$$ ? Seems like that is the hot ticket now. I just like that blower belt whine I guess. But, I won't be buying the procharger for a while yet. (maybe next year) so I have time to change my mind. H.P. will be in the 1,500 range. If I keep the weight...

Re: Firewall Project

Injection would be cool but it's more $$$. And the carb will get me where I need to be HP wise, so I figured the extra expense wasn't worth it. They make some pretty exotic purpose built carbs for the pro charger these days.

Re: Firewall Project

Made a little more progress. I put the ol' foam mock up engine in it to make sure I get the angles right before going too much further.

Re: Firewall Project

Got the flanges turned this weekend. http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/8913/flangebore.jpg http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/flangebore.jpg/1/w850.png I put a groove around the edge of the flange for the firewall sheet metal. Once I install the o-ring and get in place I'll check the new gap with a fee...

Firewall Project

I'm ready to rebuild the firewall. I cut the flanges out today for the intercooler tubes to pass through the firewall. I'll turn them down on the lathe & weld them in place & shape the sheet metal around them. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Firewallstart.jpg http://img.photo...
