Re: Rookie help/ Advice 1968 Camaro SS

The caddy motor would be hard to find parts for...or at least they would be a tad more expensive due to lack of demand for them.

Re: Rookie help/ Advice 1968 Camaro SS

You can pick up a digital micrometer for around 30 bucks at your local(ish) parts store. This is a valuable tool to have. You can measure the bore the obvious way...to measure the stroke use the long end of the micrometer. There's a little stick that will come out the back when you open it so you wo...

Re: Rookie help/ Advice 1968 Camaro SS

I'm with John...check that bore and stroke. Plenty of racers use tall decks...you can run a longer rod that way.

I have the pros...not sure how much weight would be saved - but it all adds up.

Re: Rookie help/ Advice 1968 Camaro SS

Pm sent Also, looking at the Eddyville site...there aren't any 7.50 index classes. There is a sportsman bracket class where cars are 7.50 and slower. Bracket classes are the type where you each try to run a number. However, it does look like there is going to be four 6.90 index races. But those are ...

Re: Return of the Death Nova

Hopefully this isn't an incredibly dumb question...anything special for your rear shocks to be mounted upside down like that? I would assume not, but I am no shock guru. I'm going to try to get mine sitting lower and am looking at doing what you did and bring the shock through the trunk floor. Sure ...

Re: bbc 2 bolt to 4 bolt caps?

I went ahead and put the Milodon splayed caps on mine. BUT, I got an untouched 289 block for free that I started from. The 289 castings are supposed to be some of the thickest GM blocks and high nickel too. Not sure how they would stack up against a darrt block though???

Re: bbc stud girdles?

I too have Jomars, like was mentioned above...if I was starting from scratch I would try to go shaft setup. But I wasn't, the Jomars are nice and reasonably priced.

Re: Rookie help/ Advice 1968 Camaro SS

Hitch is right. 781 heads work ok. That's what I run and my gar has been 6.70 on them with junk slicks, and I only have a .060 over 427 (439). A roll cage has been mentioned, I do believe a roll-bar is required at 7.30. A driveshaft safety loop is required is you run slicks. A helmet if you run fast...

Points distributor help

Hello friends, I'm trying to resurrect my grandfather's truck. It's been sitting for twenty years or so. I've replaced the coil, points, condenser, ballast resistor, cap and rotor. All setup, I have .5 ohms resistance from the battery ground to the wire coming out of the distributor. When I crank it...

Re: Launch advice please

Interesting you say that...I also used to have three ways on the front and put some 90/10s a friend had barely used on it for this year. I might take my old shocks to the track with me and swap them - I think they were set tighter. I'd just like to see an even load on the tire. It looks to me to be ...

Re: Launch advice please

Thanks John, I've never hit a tire that hard before. Can I hit it harder? Lower the launch RPM...that doesn't sound like fun  Not sure why I am so determined to leave at a lot of RPM. Luv - yes 28-10.5 S they have about 40-50 passes on them. Some people throw em away at 20 passes. This is my f...
