Re: 1970 Cuda 4 speed 60 ft problem
Your 10 sec expectations are easily obtainable! And you dont need ladder bars to do it. You are simply just overpowering the tires off the starting line and the chassis needs some help to minimize this. And if you are going to use a street clutch in the car you have to try and bog the engine a littl...

Re: 1970 Cuda 4 speed 60 ft problem
I have a Jerico 4 speed, drag race transmission, its a clutchless transmission. You shift it without using the clutch.
The clutch is only used on the starting line.

They are a race type of clutch that is designed so that they will slip a little off the line as well as on gear changes, to minimize wheel spin.

Re: 1970 Cuda 4 speed 60 ft problem
Ooops now i saw the videos...wow thats a handfull. I would say the car has easy 10 sec potential. But if thats at a Air Strip...good luck, it will never hook like it should. Start with the clutch and then it will also need some good rear springs, and it may also need a digital ignition system to pul...

Is this a street car or drag race car? If its a drag race car, a adjustable clutch will help alot.

Re: Let's talk bias and over all weight.
On my car going from the all steel front end to glass was exactly 250 lbs difference, including heater core, dash and stock wiring removed.
Lexan windshield was 10lbs savings.
Light weight wilwood front brakes 35 lbs savings from drums.

Re: thought alcohol motors were supposed to run cool???
I was just thinking about your setup... 160lb injectors on a stock motor are not going to work very well which is why your lean at idle. If i remember right those injectors are good for a 1000hp alcohol engine. And as you know you need a minimum duty cycle to get them to work reliably

Re: thought alcohol motors were supposed to run cool???
Only at first when it was real fat and i could not get any heat in the motor, i could not even get it to 140. With alcohol heat is a good indicator of your tuneup, like in your case it appears to be lean at idle. On a pass i would see a 10 degree increase in temp. and it will cool back down on the r...

Re: thought alcohol motors were supposed to run cool???

I have only looked at afr at speed.
Is your car EFI? Did you put bigger injectors in it?

Re: thought alcohol motors were supposed to run cool???
It has to be super LEAN... And yes alky can still run that lean (not safely), as well as fat enough to have fuel running out of the exhaust and still run. Fatten it up at idle and see what it does, ignore your afr for now. I am taking out my full sized radiator and putting in super small radiator......

Re: What mufflers?
I have 3" bullets on my Small block, My ears used to ring after a pass and the bullets took that problem away. My car was not affected performance wise, but they would be a bit on the loud side for a street car.
See my sig to hear the car idleing and making a pass.

Re: drag engine questions. 383 sbc
Those are descent heads, but require some special parts to use them. Offset rocker on intake, 60/40 spacing, and a special stud girdle.
But you might be able to find some like that with all the parts on racingjunk?
There are much better heads out there today.
