Sounds like you need to find out what is in the lower end of your engine. If it would hold up to the rpm,...I'd stretch it out to at least 7k or so. I sti;; think you'll end up putting your old gears back in the long run. Need to revisit this question after you find out what is in the engine,...Carb...

imo,... go lighter and longer if possible. Only go heavier if the springs won't carry the load.

In the past I've ran them on a few builds. Myself I don't really like them. They cause more headaches then they cure. They do have their place. I doubtthat place would be on your build. jmo.

2 things come to mind for me.

How much piston to wall clearance do you have? How straight are the cylinder walls?

Could be a lean condition also.
