Re: How difficult is it to learn to TIG?

Actually, in my example, the fill rod probably touched the tungsten or close enough. I have filled bare handed without incident. I have laid my bare arm on the bench and gotten tickled before. But as I said, much ado about nothing. It always happens when you first start the puddle and generally that...

Re: How difficult is it to learn to TIG?

ANYTHING that is passing electricity will offer the opportunity to get shocked. I can't remember the last time I got buzzed and it was probably with the fill rod touching the weld puddle the same time as touching my bare arm (not smart, I know). Heck I have been zapped more times by ignitions system...

Re: How difficult is it to learn to TIG?

You will have to be real honest with yourself about what you want to weld down the road. IF you plan on aluminum bigger than say .090 then you will need a "real" welder with water cooling. By that I mean something capable of more than 250 amps. The air cooled ones are fine for chassis work...

Re: How difficult is it to learn to TIG?

John, If you are going to do this, do it now, not in February. Here is why. Friend of mine decided he was tired of dragging the car back and forth to me. I helped him pick out a Miller econo 180 with an flex head torch. A week later he calls. "I have it tacked. Can you finish it?". A few d...

Digital dashboard

Anyone know of a digital dash that could tie in and use the same sensors as RPM or other loggers?

What about a standalone dash the has programmable readouts but does not log?

Need something Top Fuel tough and bracket race priced. :nutkick:

Thanks

Re: Hydraulic Shop Press

Save a buck or 2? I either polish or grind the pinion bearing surface in a crank grinder so the bearing just goes on and off with a slight push.

And Now for something completely different

My wife has been producing these really cool photo ornaments for a few years now for the local folks and racers. I suggested a while back that she may want to have a web presence about these. Open mouth, insert work! After being err...nudged about it for a while I finally added a page concerning the...

Corsa has the radio download built into their latest deal and have been wondering/concerned that this rule might bite them.

I am sure a smart guy could figure out how to make the car radio controlled but why? What can you accomplish in 8 seconds or less?

Be careful with this idea. It gets into the "no wireless communication" section of NHRA rules. Someone may use it against you some day.

Rumor has it that MSD bought RacePak.
That should prove interesting in the mix of things.

This rule was in the general regs section. It does not specify national events or any particular class so they left it open to their interpretation. It will be interesting to see what follows. IF it is aimed at brackets cars it was a waste of paper. "the data logger may not display any informat...

What do you suppose.......?

The latest from NHRA. As usual they never explain why. What do you suppose this is all about? Another Money grab? "Beginning Jan. 1, 2006, all data recorders manufactured after that date must be NHRA accepted before being used in NHRA competition." They do some things OK and then another b...
