Re: ladder bar front adjustments

Billy, would pointing or drawing a line from bottom of rear tire through the front ladder bar attachment point to the rear of the cam be about and or a good starting point? for center of gravity. The 100% antisquat line passes through the rear tire patch and the intersection of two other lines, one...

Re: ladder bar front adjustments

not trying to hijack the thread, but quick question while we're on the topic. does a anti-roll do anything for a ladder bar car? thanks Very good question! There are those who say that an ARB is not needed on a ladder car. But, there are others who say that they've added the ARB and have improved t...

Re: ladder bar front adjustments

The "bars" of a ladder bar suspension shouldn't be confused with the "links" of a 4 link. A "link" has pivots at BOTH ends. The "bar" of a ladder bar car is merely an extension of the axle housing and, as such, its angle relative to the ground is of no concern...

Re: taller tire or taller gear set ?

We are trying to knock the trap RPM down to reduce engine maintenance . What's your shift rpm? Isn't it over 7800? With your adjustable front coilovers, it would be easy to cancel most of the driveshaft torque effect with different rate springs across the front. See my site for details. http://www....

Re: taller tire or taller gear set ?

So do you have any suggestions on what way to go next ? Any change in gearing would say that you're second guessing your engine builder. If he's correct (and he should know), you're right where you should be on gearing. Let's face it, you might not get into the 8s without changes other than gearing...

Re: taller tire or taller gear set ?

The engine builder says the heads probably top out at about 7,800 RPM . If the power peak is at 7800 rpm, you certainly do NOT want to be turning that speed as you go through the traps. That extra 600 rpm sounds pretty ideal. You're trying to get the maximum area under the power curve and you don't...

Re: Question for Billy Shope: 3 link calculator

When you look at the engine torque, you're looking at the wrong end of the driveshaft. The driveshaft torque determines the forward thrust at the rear tire patch. This thrust then determines the weight transfer. The axle ratio establishes the relationship between the forward thrust and the drivesha...

Re: I'm lost, ignorant and out of my league, no doubt.

As everyone's tellin' ya, you need more tire. My 1/4 times are averaged in the 14. sec. range and my trap speed is kind of funny because it seems that no matter what my times are, I appear to be going 94-96 mph. This is to be expected. You could start in high gear and you'd still be running almost e...

What's the 60 foot time? Do the front tires ever leave the strip surface? What rear suspension do you have?

Re: TOO MUCH TRACTION?

You got the correct answer in the second response (johnh): Increase the tire air pressure. Just increase the tire air pressure until you stop abusing the wheelie bars. From that point, you've got 2 choices: Either sell the car or find ways to move a whole lotta weight forward. If you're able to avoi...

Re: 4 Link System - Step by Step

I'll take a stab at trying to explain in lesser terms what I think Billy is suggesting. I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong. All I know is when you remove the front sway bar, you're front suspension will move easier and therefore increase the transfer of weight to the rear. If Billy's experience...

Re: 4 Link System - Step by Step

Perhaps you're not familiar with the abbreviation "ARB." It stands for "anti-roll bar." This is a very popular aftermarket piece which is essentially nothing more than a very high rate rear sway bar with adjustable end linkage for preload. When you install an ARB, you're also de...
