Re: carb to hood pans

Use the moroso foam. You'll be glad you did with the first backfire. If you have the room, a flat sheet with a radiused opening into the carb is best. Look at the Moroso air pan kit. It gives you all the stuff you need, if the pan is big enough.

Re: what do I have here?

First, a .060 setup should be a 388. But the biggest influence you will have on the power output of the engine will be how good of a cylinder head you can use. And then from there, determining the best cam based on the usage of the engine. An engine like that would benefit from about a 190-200cc int...

Re: Fuel Pumps

As far as quiet, the Mallory pumps seem to be the quietest ones I have used. As far as recommendation, I have had good luck with the Magnafuel pumps. I have a Magnafuel 500 in the car now. I don't think you need that much, but they have a 275 and a 300.

Re: head studs

Studs overall are a better fastener, offer better clamping, and protect the deck threads in the block. However, if you are not pulling the heads a lot or if it is in a full body car, studs in my opinion are a headache. I still use ARPhead bolts on my 540 with no issues. Try pulling the head off a ca...

Re: Newbie needs help

Only thing I can offer is to call a professional cam grinder. A lot of people are quick to make recommendations based on that their engine is "similar". But in reality they aren't. Cams of same lift and duration can be different as far as opening and closing ramp profiles and total area of...

Re: Best combo

For that motor, I think the 650 and contender would be the better set up. The motor is a low rpm engine and the smaller intake and carb will help the low end torque. If you want, you could try the 750 on the contender.

Re: Small tire vs Big tire

I started on the small tire, because it was cheaper and it was all I thought I would need. But in bracket racing now with more power, I needed the consistency and the only way to do that was put the biggest tire I could fit.

The shocks were scared of the speed so they needed a break!

Re: What do you do to bed your brake pads in?

If I can I will take the car to a local parking lot and drive it around there. If not, I will drive it up the return road and back several times making testing stops similar to what Hawk recommends. You really should do that with any brake pads, even your daily driver.

They were working this day. This was the day the ring and pinion was making funny noises. Who woulda guessed that more than half the ring gear teeth were cracked. LOL!!! http://studio413.smugmug.com/Maple-Grove-Raceway/2014-Season/02-Maple-Grove-April-19/38603928_3TW5WW#!i=3191156393&k=mBQjrWV&a...

Re: Winter Upgrades....

Well, I made some progress over my Christmas vacation of 2 weeks, I got the PG rebuilt with better parts and a brake, a new SFI flex plate, new locking tranny tube, rewired the car and added the 2 step, and now, Ray is dropping off some Strange SA coilovers with 130 springs. I'm going to fire it up...

Re: New stuff...

For that much power I would go with the steel caps. And yes you will need to check the main bores if you are changing to studs. They may need to be re honed if the clamping is different and at that point, the block is held through the cam tunnel anyway so cam bearings are in the trash. Doesn't matte...

Re: high speed top end fish tail

The travel didn't look too bad on the front end when it left. I assume its a rack and pinion steering setup, so steering box ratio Shouldn't be a big issue here? Just wondering also what the 4 wheel corner weights on the car are. Is it possible that with the height of the rear of the body that there...
