Re: Bore and stroke for new motor

Build a 540. Building a small bore engine is not worth it anymore. A basic combo is a 4.25" stroke crank, 4.5" bore block, and a 6.385" rod. You can get it all internally balanced with the longer rod and it will live forever. Rod lengths, I have not really seen any issues with them. E...

Re: Another Try....

It's true. I'm going to drive on October 4th. But my main goal is helping Bruce get the car down the track himself. It's a lot to take in and deal with on a new car.

Re: Another Try....

I have to agree, I don't think we'll hit the high 10's on motor. I don't think the converter is loose enough N/A to help it leave with the powerglide. Ultimately if it was motor only, say at 123 mph for high tens, I would put more gear in it to get it moving. I would bet this thing could benefit fro...

Is it going to take that long to get to the finish line that I won't be able to make to the bathroom?

Re: Another Try....

Rumor has it that Bruce has hired a professional driver to try to get the car down the track for its first runs.

Re: Another Try....

My old goodyears went flat every week. Things still worked great after 4 years sitting on the car. Last weekend on the car they went between 1.26 and 1.28 in 60'. When you mount the slicks, coat the inside with dish soap and it fills in the pores in the rubber to help agains t leakage.

I think on motor right now it will be fine. If it was to get into the 10's on motor I think it would push the limit of the 3/8" line.

Re: Another Try....

I'll try to answer as much as I can from what I have seen on the car. And why I left it as is. The carburetor first is a pro systems carb. It is rated in the high 840 range, so knowing Patrick's carburetors, it has jet extensions with the notched float, and generally the jetting is pretty close. The...

Re: Another Try....

Ultimately 72-7300 should be high enough for this motor. The springs were supposed to be 200 on the seat and 550 open pressure. Its a little lower than I would normally use, but the valve is small. Its a 2.06/1.72 valve with a 3/8" stem. So I think it should be ok.

Re: Another Try....

Basically, the short story behind all the changes was the front end was very stiff and being a powerglide car, I wanted to speed up the weight transfer. So the front springs were softened and the rear shocks were set soft to make sure the car will hook the first time out. After that the rear shocks ...

It plays tricks with the eyes. Your eyes expect to see a camaro and then the back end confuses everything.

Re: Uni body roll cage mounting

No, the plates are per the rule book. Anything over and above that is a good idea. If it were me, I would build as much of a frame under the car to support the cage as I could.

Re: Chassis Cert

Nope, you could bring a bare chassis to certify. And you can call up and they will come to your house to certify the car. The Division 1 guy comes to my house every 3 years and is done in 15 minutes.

Re: Pinon Angle Debate

In a perfect world yes, you should try to have them equal and opposite. And when the rear is lower than the trans it works fine. But what do you do in a drag car when the rear housing is tucked up in the car and the trans is lower? My car the driveshaft runs up hill while the trans points down. So I...

Re: Another "Help me with my ladder bar setup thread! (w/ vi

I would check some of the shock websites for spring recommendations like QA-1 or maybe Strange, but my car is 3160 with me in it and I use 130 springs. It generally 60's around 1.27-1.28.
