I finally got a new set of trick front springs installed and let settle for a couple of weeks. I cut 1.5 coils off each spring, dropping the front down to 3/4" from the lower A-arm stops. I also weighed the car with the suggestions made earlier in the thread--no preload on the Cal-tracs, with a...

Sunsation/Mike/John, I think I finally get it. Guess you just had to hit me in the head a little harder! I was looking at the weight shifting backwards. I will borrow the scales again and weigh the car with no preload. I also plan on ordering a new set of front springs, since the front has settled f...

I agree, John, the static weights can be correlated to the launch of the car, but what would be really beneficial is real time data recorded during the run. For my car, I don't think adding 150lb to the RR is the answer. The car already leaves LF higher, and adding weight to the RR is only going to ...

Thanks for the info. With no ballast in the car, it leaves the line with the LF about 3-4 inches higher than the RF. That is why I think adding weight to the LR may help. Weight on the rear is definately needed for some traction consistency as well. Other than that, the car doesn't pull to one side ...

Nova Corner Weights/What To Do With It?

I weighed my car with four corner scales to see how far off my weight bias was and to see what I could do to improve it. I used weight plates as ballast and moved them around for different scenarios. The car is a '71 Nova, aluminum head 388, NA, fiberglass hood and front bumper, leaf spring, Cal-Tra...

Beyond and gearjammer,

Did you guys also install the CE rear frame rails, or stick with the stock frame?

John,

Thanks for the info on how much to cut out of the front coils. That has been my obvious choice, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I will give that a try; too bad next season is many months away!
I currently run a CE 3 way front shock set at 90/10.

Thanks again,

Eric

Nova Front Springs

Hey, new to the site, really like a lot of the information in here, so thought I'd pick some people's brains. I run a '71 Nova, small block/TH350, leaf spring w/Cal-Tracs, 28X10 slicks, best ET 10.73 @ 122.5. The car weighs 3100# w/driver. I currently have the lightest Moroso Trick front springs for...
