Re: winter changes/upgrades

Mocked up the front end this evening. Fit seems good, little more flex than I'd like so I'll be watching that as I bolt the fenders down tight and if needed, I'll need to come up with some sort of bracing. I also plan to make come stand off's to provide bolt locations for some of the header panel bo...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

I worked today and got most of the tubular core support fabricated. I still need to mock up the fenders, hood & header panel to verify everything still fits as it should. I also need to fabricate a bracket to hold the Star vacuum pump intake/exhaust tank. I'll also need to decide if I need to ma...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

Momentous occasion here today. After 14 months of rebuild time, the Malibu is back on it's feet once again! http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv124/10secBu/assembly68.jpg http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv124/10secBu/assembly69.jpg http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv124/10secBu/assembly70.jpg ...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

Oh no doubt, was mainly referring to the core support itself. A cut up stocker actually is pretty light. Radiator, water in radiator, hoses and water pump are some decent savings for sure. The G-body core support is rather large & bulky compared to the Nova/Camaro piece. I think my stock one wa...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

Oh yea, I got started building a jig of the stock core support. It's almost done with two more holes to locate. Once that's done I'll be able to start fabricating the brackets & bending tubes for the new chromoly tube core support. BTW, the original core support (swiss cheesed) weighed 23 lbs o...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

You know, that thing is much too beautiful to get dirty at the race track. You'll prolly need to pre-smear it with some road grime and tar before you even load it up on the trailer the first time, just to get it through the initial shock period. Pretty sure we took care of that issue when I drove o...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv124/10secBu/assembly67.jpg So do they look any different? lol Just got the front shocks back from Afco where they were revalved. They were originally BNC shocks, but had the rebound side updated to the Big Gun package. Needed more control as the rebound was maxe...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

John, Honestly had I worked on assembly at the pace that I did the fabrication (24 hours per week), I could have completed the assembly much quicker. My wife has had two surgeries this past fall which kept me from working on the car as much as I could have. I'm not really pushing hard on the assembl...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

Only bad thing about those 50' cables is people tripping on them walking around the car. I'd really like to have some kind of wireless setup, but hey the 50' cable is a lot cheaper. Knock on wood I've not had anyone trip on the cord. I only hook it up to download, then coil it back up and put it aw...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

Sounds like good planning, even though it was an afterthought turned out looking nice regardless. I'm going to figure out a way to put the Data Logger Serial and MSD USB cable sockets somewhere easy to get access to. Maybe glove box door or something. Glove box would be a good idea assuming the car...

Re: winter changes/upgrades

That's cool on getting the ink, and well deserved I might add. What' that on the pass door bar, a lighter socket? Thanks John. That is a jack for the download box of the Autometer data log dash. There's a box you plug into the port, then remove and plug it into your computer's USB to download data....

Re: winter changes/upgrades

Tried to have a productive weekend working on the car last evening and this afternoon. I wound up spending that time doing some rewire work on the power & ground cables. Some of the professionals that saw the pics suggested I install a dedicated ground cable front to back in the car to attach al...

Re: heading to the shop

Looks great so far. Love them Elky's.

Is your helmet gonna be completely behind the forward part of the funny car cage?
