Re: drag engine questions. 383 sbc
Welcome to the site. I would say mid 10's are possible, and your drivetrain will love the soft-loc. Here is a used soft loc link http://www.umtrnorth.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6651 I bought my soft loc used and then had Tim Hyatt rebuild it, i also got a good deal on a new ALum. F/W from him. Al...

Re: drag engine questions. 383 sbc

From gas to alky picked up 5 mph, et also dropped .5 secs Better clutch and vacuum pump picked up .06 in the 60 ft Front shocks at that time w...

Re: drag engine questions. 383 sbc
Maybe the dyno is lying? The Dyno was also at a sea level and the 10.20's @ 130 mph were at 2800ft elevation, where 5000 ft d/a's are common? And for the original posters info i dont see the car running in the 9's without a 210 cc head and a bigger cam and or nitrous. My 383 in its current configura...

Re: drag engine questions. 383 sbc
With more cam it would make 550, with the setup he has currently has 500, and yes i would say the carb is to big. My old 383 made 550 to the wheels on a chassis dyno with AFR 210's, my car is also a 4 speed car so the drivetrain is very effiecient...maybe it makes 600hp? I also used 1 3/4" head...

Re: Alcohol & turbo
I had a turbo alcohol car, and it was EFI not carbed...it worked great. You just need a secong program for pump gas. At the end of the day you dump the alcohol and put in 2 gallons of pump gas change to the pump gas program, start the car for a couple of mins and let it idle...that way it willl purg...

Re: Off-season changes?
My changes started last year and has snowballed. Started out with going from a 8.8 rear end to a Dana 60 and getting it mini tubbed with sliders. Next i bought a lenco 5 speed and sold the Jerico 4 speed. Also am putting in a clutch can which takes up alot of room. Had to make a new trans tunnel and...

Re: Picking up the Nova Sunday
John, what are you going to do for a water pump? A remote setup?
I'm doing a similar setup on my car, but a front mounted tank, very small tank since its a alcohol motor....but am still looking at remote pumps and am not sure which one i want to use.

Re: Tire Size vs 60 foot and MPH
My guess would be about .05 loss in et and minimal in 60' unless you bog the motor. I went from 4.88's to 4.30 and lost .10 in 60ft and a total loss in et of .10 , and i picked up 2 mph. It may not lose a thing it really depends what your motor likes. Any chance you could up the limiter a couple hun...
Re: Heads?
Thats a small motor and a low rpm...factory oval ports could make 700 on that motor, but if you have to have aluminum... anyones small heads should work fine. If it was my setup i would look at it in the long term goal status! If you want to run 8's with a big block in the future...then start the pl...
