Re: Running rich?

The carb from Mark should be fine, but with low compression you will have to work to get enough heat in it. Hotter plugs is a start, raise the starting line temp 5˚ at a time, maybe a little more timing. Learn to read plugs, E85 will make it harder, there is a good plug read here. http://www.dragstu...

Re: Running rich?

I was going to tell you you were way rich, until I saw E85. Where did you get the carb? And at 8 to 1, you will probably need the hottest plug you can get. DON"T use the EGT's to jet by, look at your MPH, go up until it slows then back to where it MPH's the best. E85 is a different animal when ...

All the metering is adjustable, and will allow you to keep the 4150 bolt pattern.

Re: RPM drop vs. rear gears vs. stall speed, please help

Marty gave you good info, you need an 8" that will stall at least 5500, and with that combo a spragless will kill you in the 1/4. One more note, you run E85, what carb do you run? I'd like to see the AFR after you get a converter for it. I mess a bit with carbs, and I am building an 1150 for E8...

Re: SBC Heads

The SB2.2 heads require a specific block. Not at all. You can use the same lifters an 18˚ engine uses, a single offset. The 447 we put together 3 years ago now in my brothers car has a standard inline lifter setup. It does require different pistons and a different cam as the intake and exhaust swap...

Re: What can be done with a 9.5" converter?

Marty is right, they might stall 3500 in one app and 5000 in another. I would guess they would be in the 3800-4500 range with milder engines you appear to have. Just depends on your combo's and what works best for them, in the 450 HP range they should be capable of stalling enough efficiently.

Re: CarbHelp

Sent a PM on YB, in addition can you set the float level low enough to not come out the sight hole, then start it with the sight plug out. See if the fuel creeps up out of the sight plug. Try swapping fuel bowls, and make sure there are vent whistles on the metering blocks.

Re: Carb tuning questions??

I can see how timing could cause this problem, and it could be, but why does it get better once the car is warmed up? Timing can be a huge factor. If you have anything much more than a street cam you need a fair amount of initial timing, in some cases locked timing will run best. How much timing an...

Re: Help me on picking a carb..

If it were me I'd get an 8082 Ultra HP. I has all the stuff to allow you to tune it, and is a 2 circuit Dominator. I might even go with the 7320 Ultra 1150, but that would be me. I run a 1250 on my little small block...

Re: Annualr vs. Down Leg

Annulars have a stronger signal, but will sacrifice airflow. The bleed size will change between the two. With your setup stick with the downleg, you should have no issue tuning if it's the combo on your signature.

Re: valve spring?

Try a PAC 1224. Same measurements as the Nextec, a little more pressure and good for .850 lift. I have dyno time and 3 races on my Nextek 21425's, the ends cam off three of the springs. I was lucky to catch it, unfortunately the lack of time required me to get another set of Manley's. I will be watc...

Re: belt drives

Yes, I used one on the 447 SBC I put together in 08 that is now in my brothers Vette, I also have one currently in my 461 SBC. Very well made, the only thing you want to ignore in the instructions is using ARP lube on the center cam bolt to torque. Use nothing but red Loctite. After a year we had it...

Re: How accurate are the MSD RPM Chips

Making an adjustable chip is easy. All you need is a potentiometer, some pin terminals and a few resistors. All can be had at Radio Shack. A 5K single turn pot works fine, use the chart to figure where you want your starting point and add a resistor of that value in series. For example, a 1K resisto...

Combination of both, it ran 1.07 60ft, 4.77@ 142+ in Gainesville with my 32" tires, 1.08 and either 4.82 or 83 this last weekend in warmer Palm Beach with the 33.5 tires. Big rollout difference between the two. I have some time to work on it before the Divisionals here, the intake is the first ...

Re: Change converter or keep what I have?

Yes it was a TS converter, it originally had a Diode in it when new. Went to JW for a repair the first time I had an issue with the diode, and went back again to have the diode removed after losing a S/C race to Scotty Richardson because of it. :pissed: Both times it acted as if it was slipping, to ...
