Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
Ok here's a update, I found that my Bottom shock plate had moved a tad, and after talking to travis he said they usually retorque after i hit or two, so that makes sense y i lost my preload, I also removed my shackles and drilled out the hole's larger so the bushing is able to freely rotate around t...

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
No with shocks and bars off I can only pick up the car a 1" or so.Its really stiff to me . I read on yellow bullets cal trac thread Jeff c said with that stuff disconnected the car should move like 4-5 inches ?

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
Yes, that's just it, with the weight off like u say the pin is a 1" from the spring, also yes it bounces but just from the flex in the spring, but I tried to lift it up and it only lifts a 1" and it doesn't push down much either, in the pics are those shackles maxed out? I would think it s...

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
So I went out and lifted the car, it definitely is not running out of shock travel as u can see in the pic and where the fender lip looks in video. A couple of things , 1 when I jacked it up like u see in the pic, should the cal trac pin still be on the leaf? I thought the whole idea of the cal trac...

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
Thanks guys, as far as stuff too tight the front I have nylocks on the bolts on bottom, and the top I have them backed off too so they move, the back the front spring eye bolt is loose, where the cal trac goes thru, with no pre load those wiggle easily, and the back shackles I took off last year and...

Then tightened two more in back and went 1.50 again then a 49.then a 48. last pass tightened two more in...

Front end alignment
I have a appointment Friday to get the car aligned 74 firebird wondering how I should have them set it up? What do u guys recommend for numbers, Should I have the front raised a inch or two when their doing it etc.It also still has the stock arms and cross bar too, so probably limited on caster? I a...

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
These were just put on in Aug..actually won the race lol.. then next race it was right back to spinning. I think I was dead hooking n too much comp in shock n not enough air n running over the folds.

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
Yea, the problem I had last year was one race I would have it hooking, thinking I found the setup next rave right back to hook n spin, like the car was squatting instead of seperating, one guy watched it n said it looked like back was going down, then it would spin. Which I think I was crushing the s...

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
Here's Video last year, I think shocks were similiar in back to above, like 12 off full tight on EXT and 6-9 off full tight on COMP. I can slow the video down in media player, to me it seems to plant the tire initially , but right after u can see it spin, this was with 12 psi, I hadn't tried the 16 ...

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
Man this is an old thread. I'm in agreement with Craig, instant center location has to be through the front spring eye bolt regardless of what you're doing monkeying around with the caltrac bars. They are basically a glorified slapper bar, one with much more adjustment. Changes to the cal-trac pivo...

Re: Finding the instant center on a leaf spring car
Hey Guys, old thread I know, but interesting none the less, so the Effective IC changes when cal tracs are used cause the pin on plate pushes down on the spring creating leverage to lift vehicle and that kinda becomes the effective IC correct? I was having a problem last year with a new setup consis...

Re: My new ride for 2012!
Damn dude, thats quite an improvement. Is there a big blue bottle in the future for this engine? A 100 shot would prpbably land you in the high 9's! And that would be pretty cool!! Don't think I haven't already thought that ,lol.. But 9's would mean more rules and money etc... See where i tune this...
