Feedback on hook

#1 Post by Goat Hearder » Wed Jul 16, 2008 10:27 pm

Any opinions on the hook of the Goat? 9" x 28", QA1 single adj. coil over 3 up from softest setting, 95lb. springs, 12 PSI in slicks, stock Pontiac rear sway bar, Edelbrock adj. uppers and Hothkiss lowers. 4.10 in Chevy 12 bolt. 60' 160's 10.90-11.00 in hot weather. Weighs little over 3,000 lbs.

Have you tried stiffening the rear socks? I have QA1's on the rear, not coil overs but they are 3 clicks shy of full stiff.

Looks like it's dead hooking to me. Plenty of sidewall distortion though...

Have not gone higher on shock seting yet. Tried putting the slick pressure up first runs at this event and spun em out of the hole. Went down on tire pressure then discovered by track photo this! Of course this photo was found the last day of the event! It is foot braked and am trying to develop a good launch RPM. Left around 2800 on this run. Had Lakewood no hop bars in it last year and she'ld lift the left front a bit. 60' was in 1.50's then. Have new engine in from winter. First outing my Buddy got 7.0's out of it and I got a 6.79. GTO's got more in her but I believe it is in the rear suspension. Also put lighter Moroso springs up front more in line with the weight we had scaled the car to. I thank you for the info! Most everyone here is a bunch faster, but we are having fun! Most of the fun is in the trip, not the destination!

I got a buddy with a pontiac like yours. He has the same size slick as you but he has ladderbars and coilovers, He has a 455 with a TH400 trans and 4.10 gear. He leaves off idle or between 1200 to 1600 rpm. His car yanks the front end about a foot off the line and runs 11.00 to 11.20s. Gotta love that pontiac grunt!!!!!!! By the way that is a very cool car you have there!!!!!

Thanks, We have been chasing things on it, and finaly had real consistancy in the car, but our driving sucked! Took the 428 out and put a 400 out to 468 with some Aluminumn Kaufman Heads Comp cam etc. While we have not dyno'd it should make an easy 75-100 more horses. I thought that the old Lakewood "no Hop" bars for the GM A-Body was screwing us up so we got rid of those and are still in my mind hitting the tire to hard for what we have! I have tried lower rpm launches but we run a Tri-Power and even with tweeking the accelerator pumps she will bog /sputter off the line. Throttle up on the foot brake and she leaves hard no problem. It is like anything else they are all different , and respond to different things. I am just trying to cut down on trial and error by putting this out for opinions! Many of the folks here have been generous and offered help/opinion and expearience. Unfortunately this summer on the east coast has been rain or hot as hell and the hot as hell knocks the crap out of fun factor! Thanks again for the feedback.
